I know this question has been asked before, but I want to know about aspects that have not been discussed in previous topics. I am curious as to which city has the best scenery (lots of trees, greenery), unique architecture, older homes and buildings, sense of history, and over all which is the most distinctive. I am also wondering which one is similar to Memphis, TN? If anyone could give me some insight I would really appreciate it! :]
Scenery: Lexington's beautiful Bluegrass surroundings are world famous.
Unique architecture: Louisville.
Older houses and buildings: Louisville has more; Lexington has earlier.
Sense of history: Tie: Perhaps a slight edge to Lexington, which is the older city.
Most distinctive: Depends on one's definition of distinctive!
Most similar to Memphis: Louisville. The Kentucky River borders Fayette County, but is around fifteen miles from Lexington, while the Ohio River borders downtown Louisville. Both Memphis and Louisville are river cities - Lexington is not.

Lexington is a third of the size of Louisville or Memphis, which are essentially the exact same size in metro areas. The cities are very similar in almost every regard, except Louisville currently lacks the NBA. Louisville also has a much lower violent crime rate, but it has plenty of rough areas too. Lexington is more comprable to Knoxville in TN, an overgrown college town with a new south attitude. That said, Lexington is still a large clip smaller than Knoxville.
Lexington by far.. like Louisville but love Lexington better.
