Not trying to slam you, just disagreeing with you that most people would find the word twang offensive. No worries at all

South of Indy, because that's where all the Waffle Houses start popping up!

I lived in Brown County, Nashville area for 15 years & folks referred to the area as Central Indiana. It's 68 miles North of Kentucky on I 65.

It kinda all depends on how folks view the state I guess. Wanamaker and New Pal are not what I would consider southern Indiana at all. I've always felt that Shelbyville, Batesville, Franklin, Martinsville are all S. Indiana. Not really sure why, it just felt that from those points on, you are in a more southern, semi-rural area of the state.

I think a lot has to do with the Indy metro area growth. I don't feel that Cicero is in N. Indiana, but to me, Kokomo, Tipton, etc. are N. Indiana. Franklin and Cicero are likely close to the same distance from the Marion County line, but the growth went mostly north, so most of Hamilton county feels like just a part of Indy.

After living in Bloomington for 40 years, Southern Indiana was always recognized to begin at Martinsville and on south.

I started noticing the Southerern accents and Confederate flags in Central Indiana, right around Muncie. The further South you get, the thicker the twang gets. Northern Indiana has a separte accent from the rest of Indiana. Theirs is more in alignment with the Upper Midwest states.

You can find confederate flags in southern Michigan, too. What does that have to do with it?
