IL highway toll scam (Chicago, Rockford: credit card, how much, construction)

My wife went from Naperville to Oak Brook, and back - guess what's toll bill we received? $18.80!!


IL is not just the most corrupted state, they now openly run toll scam!

Every time you pass a highway toll, and they removed cash option completely, they charge $3 fee on top of the toll fee, and that's given overall horrible highway conditions.

I found out now I can register my plate online for auto payment to avoid extra fees, but what if I f..g don't want to, cause hackers keep stealing credit card data??


Where do I complain about these f..g crooks? Or they now do anything they like, like a mafia?

I feel for you. I come to Chicago most weekends and I NEVER use the tolls !

I'm fortunate to have quite a few different routes from Milwaukee to Chicago. I happily will take a slower and safer and FREE route!

Why haven't you gotten a IPASS? It eliminates the hassle.

I begrudgingly got an Ipass, but check google maps and if the difference is 10-15 minutes I avoid the toll roads. Most often If I go north on 355 and get on at Army trail vs Rt 64 it costs me 2 minutes and save me $2.00 in tolls.

It appears that $3 was for not paying tolls at all, as this is the only reason you would receive a bill.
You're fortunate, I once was charged an additional $150 for not paying 4 tolls; received a bill and threat to suspend my DL.

Get the IPass and then make sure you have the license plates listed for the vehicles that use it.

I know someone that drove around using a relatives IPass without knowing this and they got socked with a hefty bill despite having the IPass on their dash.

The real ripoff was I-90 from Chicago to Rockford and the Wisconsin border.

To finance the original construction, it was established as a toll road. When the tolls paid off the construction, it was then to be free.

However, when it was paid off, they changed their minds and continued to collect tolls anyway. The revenue source was too good to pass up.

Same with 88 and 294. Tollways will be free by 1984, soda tax is about public health, red light cameras are about safety, income tax increase is temporary. I don't believe a darn thing the Illinois govt says.

I've gotten toll violations like that because my card expired. They refuse to negotiate. They turned a $1.50 toll into a $30 bill. It's ridiculous. I just refuse to pay.

I saved over 500 dollars a year in tolls by getting out of there; plus, no potholes/2 year construction projects/endless road closures with no work being done on them, and smooth roads every where.

I had no idea how much money was emptied out of my pockets by the tollway criminals until I didnt pay it anymore!
