To me this implies that the "Progressive" tax amendment as proposed will NOT pay for the largess style of government and welfare Illinoisans are accustomed to.

The sales pitch is if you make less than $250k per year, you will pay the same or less in taxes. I think the truth is most will pay the 4.9% they are currently paying. The lucky poor get to pay 4.8%.

I don't think there are enough people making $250k+ to tax at the higher progressive rate to make up the difference.

Also, why would Pritzker pay $50M+ of his own money to unlock legislative tax freedom on the rest of us?

I'm glad there is a hedge fund manager who has donated his over $20M of his own money to try and prevent this rape of the Illinois taxpayer.

Why is there not a matching amendment proposal to eliminate the pension mandate?

The most logical thing to do. But that's asking the toilet king to be logical on taxes...when that itself doesn't make sense.

This is getting out of control. I moved here happily and located my business here about 5 years ago, because at the time it was a bargain compared to NY, and I had family in the area to sweeten the pot.

Now, I have family and friends leaving. For awhile it was just talk: but now they are actually voting with their feet.

My workers complain about Illinois corruption and taxes all the time, not to mention ridiculous red light tickets, car license fees/fines, etc.

This state is making it intolerable to live and do business here, let alone recruit new talent. There's not enough Big 10 talent to keep the pipeline full, especially in a Covid-world.

Our last 2 interns chose to relocate to Indianapolis rather than stay in Chicago... the cool factor vs other Midwest cities is narrowing, if not, non-existent.

I'm a progressive and left of center, but I don't trust ANYONE in Springfield when it comes to taxes and spending. Have they exercised any discipline at all? Term limits? Madigan conflict of interest??

The language from Pritzker and his cronies is that this income tax increase affect rich "individuals" or "persons," when in reality it affects families. Yes any family earning 250k+ can be considered fortunate, but there are lot more dual-income households in that group than individuals.... shame on Pritzker.

Shame on Illinois. I love the Midwest and four seasons, but I am at rope's end here. Indiana is looking better everyday.

Your post essentially confirms my experience. We just moved (earlier this month) from Chicago to Indy. It seems like Indy is becoming one of the safe havens for families that are tired of Illinois/Pritzkers shenanigans. Chicago is marketed as being a place for job growth, especially for millennials in the tech sector but as a "young" 30 something millennial I decided enough was enough. My wife and I love the midwest as well. But we agreed there are more ideal places for middle class families to live and work than Chicago/Illinois.

The sad thing is, I knew all along we wouldn't be staying near Chicago long term but I figured we wouldn't move for at least a few more years. We ended up selling our house after only living in it 2.5 years simply because things got worse and worse after Pritzker took office.

The plan to raise taxes after they receive their 'graduation' anyway. I'm stunned that people actually believe these people that are saying that we can solve Illinois' fiscal issues with a tax increase on so-called 'millionaires and billionaires.' Illinois Democrats don't care about our competitiveness at all. It's never a feature of any discussions with them.

We are moving to the Indianapolis area as well by the end of the year. We’re an older couple in our late 50s yet we’ve had more than enough of Illinois’s crap. It won’t just be Millennials fleeing Illinois for Indiana. It will be Gen Xers & Boomers too. Better to be among the first to escape instead of the last since you’ll pay a higher price for remaining in Illinois.

I hope voters are smart enough to Vote "NO" on this BS. I started seeing ads running all the time on youtube and was wondering who would actually be funding ads for the amendment. Now the extortion "you'd better vote for it or taxes go up 20%".

When I see a Biden sign in a neighbors yard, I kind of wonder if:

1) They work for the state or local government
2) They are emotional voters and are bad with mathematics
3) They are on the dole
4) They are anarchists
5) They want socialism
6) They think everyone on the other side is a "racist"

These are the only reasons I can think of that someone would vote JB/Biden/Groot

Yep, it's a bargain here in Indy. Especially if you're living closer to the south side of town. The north suburbs are the more ritzy areas, but we ended up choosing to live south of Indy last minute, much further from downtown and it's a night and day difference how cheap it is out here. Hope your move goes smoothly when it happens.
