Macy's announced on Jan. 6 that it will be closing its Carbondale store, which is located in the University Mall. After this closure, JCPenney will be the sole anchor store in that mall. The closest Macy's store to Carbondale will be in Cape Girardeau MO.

I'd do it. What did you decide?

I live in Franklin during the week and spend most weekends at my place in Pope County which is about 45 min south of Carbondale. Pope county is the second least populated county in Ill and over half of it is natl forest
I have to say its getting harder to come back to Franklin on Monday.

Interesting. I still enjoy being in franklin. But it is starting to seem boring to me. It’s basically a bunch of nice shopping. Something I no longer care about.

The good economy is nice for work and shopping. That’s about it

Glad to hear someone else feels the same way. We are actually south of Carbondale (Cobden area) with some nice acreage

Welcome to Southern Illinois.

You could do a lot worse by way of introduction to the area than to head to the Vulture Festival in Makanda this weekend. Bands, local vendors, food, and about as varied a crowd as you're going to see anywhere.
