In otherwords it is mostly Midwest residents just crossing the border to other Midwest states to get away from the lampreys that are Illinois government. There are also a fair number of the usual retirees and others moving to more temperate states.

"According to Burger King's website, a regular Whopper without cheese is 660 calories with 40 grams of fat. The USDA reports a generic 1-ounce slice of cheese contains 104 calories and almost 9 grams of fat. You decide if you want to do the math."

I did the math. That's 8 calories shy of 1500 calories!

And 40 grams of fat plus 8 x 9 = 112 grams of fat!

If not for the potential of the Dem-controlled govt raising the income tax to about 6%, I may have put Illinois on my list to relocate to. Chicago while not cheap has some blue collar jobs, no local wage tax, plenty of entertainment options and of course CTA. The metro area towards StL has jobs, transit and affordable housing.

It isn't the income tax that will punish you, it's the real estate tax. Say you make fifty grand a year; you would pay $2500 per year with the current 5% income tax (assuming single, no kids). But if you own a $150K home (similar to mine in the south suburbs), the Gub'mint appraises it at $200K and gives you a $5700 per year real estate tax - which is effectively an ~11% tax on your $50K income - ouch! And if you think you can avoid that by renting, ask your prospective landlord what the tax is on his apartment building, and whether or not he passes that on with the rent. THAT is what's wrong with Illinois today, and I don't hear JB talking about fixing it.

We are relocating to the gulf of Florida as soon as possible. Doing the snowbird thing until all is settled as we try to liquidate our home in Northern Illinois next summer. We pay $3600 in r/e taxes on a 125,000 home. Ridiculous and the winters are getting to us so warmer climate for us
