Default Is UIS University of Illinois Springfield a good school?

What subjects is UIS, the University of Illinois Springfield, known to be good?

what are they not so good?

Does the school have a good reputation? (I know the school in Urbana Champaign does have a good rep)

Thanks!

I would say that UIUC is well known, while UIS is not. If you are planning on going to grad school or to secure work in a competitive field where they may care where your degree is from, then UIS won't take you as far as other schools. It terms of rankings, it isn't ranked....

UIS is surrounded by corn and closer to Missouri. UIUC is bigger, surrounded by corn, and closer to Indiana.
I may be leaving out some details. For example, UIS doesn't loan me books for such length loan periods as UIUC or UIC.

Such factors come into play when you ask for my criterion of "good"ness.

I think UIS has a PhD program in commuter parking. yuck, yuck.
Seriously, nobody takes UM-Dearborn or UM-Flint seriously, but I keep hearing about UIC and UIS like they matter.
UIC probably does for medicine, isn't that where the UI medical school is? We have FARMS on campus here at UIUC, sigh.
No med school.

Actually UIS is about 2 hours from Missouri. UIUC is very highly ranked and respected, whereas UIS is not ranked. UIC is different than UIUC. UIC is in Chicago, is also a good school and has a great medical school.
I don't think I understand the point of your post.

I don't understand the point of my post either. It appears to be a sarcastic attempt by a busy, tired, overworking UIUC grad student. But, we'll have to examine it in the lab...

All I know is that the drive from Springfield to St Louis feels way too long, worse than from Champaign to Chicago. It's even more flat and boring than I-57. The Dennys in Litchfield is good if you're hungry.

I believe that UIC has a graduate program in the same field that I am in at UIUC. I believe it's ranked somewhere above 100. As much as I want to be in Chicago, I can't afford that drop.

The OP asked a generic question, and got a generic stupid answer.
From what I know, UIS has decent masters programs in business and government, and is a commuter school for undergrads (not close to anything, except maybe a McDonalds at the same Lake Springfield exit). Correct me if I am wrong.
I have at least driven through the campus at, oh, 15 mph (the cops were watching), whereas I speed by the UIC campus on the expressway a few times a year.

Dan,

As a graduate of UIS, I may be a little biased, but I felt it was a great school to attend. The professors were excellent, and the degree actually says University of Illinois with "at Springfield" in smaller letters below.

A degree is a degree, no matter what school it comes from. I have no knowledge of the masters program considering I moved to CA soon after graduation (I do hold a good position with AT&T, so the degree must be o.k.!).

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Well, no, not all colleges and universities are equal. You can get a "degree" from a website thesedays.

From what I have heard, UIS is a decent regional public university.
Would I consider teaching there someday? Maybe, but I feel Springfield is kinda remote - a backwater, even compared to Lansing, and definitely Madison.
(I would like to teach and do research at U-Wisconsin or Michigan State, but they are having funding issues thesedays.)
