Seeing pictures of Coeur d Alene with all its beautiful lakes surrounding it looks like lots of fun for water sports and all so can any idahoans confirm this as the playground of Idaho...

Nah, the fun capital is 15 miles north of CdA in Athol ID!

More seriously, yes, CdA is probably it! The lake averages about 70 feet deep, so it isn't until mid-July that most feel it's warm enough for swimming and water skiing. There is also excellent snow skiing an hour from CdA in three different directions.

And CdA has a gorgeous lakefront city park, an interesting downtown, and a lot going on year-round, plus national forest starting practically at the edge of town with many fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and biking opportunities. Overall, I'd say it is the most desirable city in Idaho to visit or live in.

Having spent lots of recreational time in the CdA area I can say YES it's a great place to vacation (or live). It's getting less affordable lately since so many out of staters have discovered its real estate values.

And it's NOTHING like the ugly brown southern part of the state. Physically and culturally speaking it's a whole different world.
