Correct, the values and culture of Idaho are attractive to many and Idaho is pretty accepting of new citizens including refugees.

Newcomers need to realize that yes, Idaho does have what they want to leave behind, but on a smaller scale.

I wouldn't classify Sandpoint and others as more liberal in their thinking, but rather more accepting and inclusive in their thinking.

That of course would depend on the point of view of each of us.

Bonner County (Sandpoint) voted about 60% for Trump, which is about the same as Bonneville (Idaho Falls), and the entire state -- 60%.

Ada County (Boise) voted about 48% Trump. Koonetai (Coeur D'Alene) voted about 67% Trump.

The point of view of each person is very true.

An interesting fact is that Clinton won the majority of the precincts in Boise city limits.

Default Thank You

Thank you for this in depth and very visually orientated description. Do you think it is possible that you're views on Coeur d'Alene or the Boise area were clouded based on you having very limited time there? My girlfriend and I (early 20's) want to move to Idaho and we are very attracted to CDL but worried about high prices for rentals. I see a huge selection of affordable places to rent in the Boise and IF areas but a much more limited selection in the CDL area. Finding a job won't be a problem for either of us but my worry is just selection of rental apartments/houses for under $800 a month.

I don't think my views were clouded, but the shorter amount of time in each does give less time to have experiences and impressions. Of course I felt like I had a better grasp of life in IF vs the others because of my limited time in the others. CDA is higher in price and less selection of housing because it has a smaller population, but there are many homes. There are many types of homes, but the CDA area seems to have a higher percentage of homes with a split entry (walk in through the front door to stairs that go up to the living room/dining room, kitchen, or down to bedrooms and such) vs Boise area that has more rancher style homes. IF has more basement type homes and prices I liked were around $150K. Pretty sure you can find any style you are looking for, it just may take longer. I personally liked homes in CDA around $200K-$250K vs Boise area that I liked for about $220K-$225K. I I don't know the cost of renting. Someone else will be able to answer the cost of renting better or you can use Zillow or Truilia. Best of luck to you on the move.

I met K-Dog while he was here in Idaho Falls.
I was struck by the seriousness of his intent when he came to look my hometown over, and how alert and observant he was. He was impressively organized, too, and had a good mental list of what he wanted to find.

He's also a pretty darned good travel writer, too. And a great young guy to boot. While some of his observations may be off the mark, I think they are few and far between, and he was very fair with his review of Idaho Falls.

IF seems to be heading into frost territory in the next few nights, while day highs were 80s even 90 just a few days ago. According to averages, end of September sees night lows in the 30s. The precipitous drop in a few short weeks is amazing to me. Is the smoke still hovering around now?

Still in North Idaho. It was pretty awful yesterday. Today not so much, but still in the air. Was tdold it was mostly coming from Montana. Supposed to rain early next week and hopefully that will clear it out.

Yes, up here in Sagle the smoke smell has been back in big way for the past few days, but we haven't seen the haze and accompanying orange sun that we had week or two ago.

Yesterday afternoon was really nice. Just a hint of haze. Didn't notice any smell at all.
