How about after the trampolines, going down to the Howard Johnson's for an ice cream cone and then a walk on the beach? Do you remember when we had thriving malls and you could go to the movies at the theater on Park Road and then cross the street and get pizza at the Orange Bowl in the Hollywood Mall? They had the BEST pizza! Luckily, we STILL have Capone's Flickerlite on the Intracoastal. The pizza and garlic rolls there are AMAZING!
Lauderdale in the 60s was THE Spring Break capital. "Where The Boys Are" probably did more to promote Florida than anything else until Miami Vice came along.

I know, right?....watching The Elbo Room from the outside, twist and limbo contests, getting polka dot "bikinis" ....and getting our drivers licenses so we could drive around blasting Van Morrison to ogle the college boys who never really talked to us younger teenagers anyway...swimming hall of fame...

...being clueless about the social issues that were about to ensue.

Default Downtown Hollywood

I do not live in Hollywood full time, so maybe there is a lot I have not witnessed. I have seen questionable characters around Publix and Walgreens and even on the beach. However, they are a minority and Hollywood is a city, not a small town. It is to be expected that the problems of a big city will be around in Hollywood. It is one of the downsides of city living. I agree that children should be safe and if there are neighborhoods where they are not, the city should address this very aggressively with strong police presence and a message that there is no tolerence. However, there will always be problems in a heavily populated city and all Hollywood can do is continue to address these problems and try to eliminate the worst of it. I think a lot is being done now and more will be done in the future.

The theater was where that strip center is across from Target, where Taco Bell and the bagel place are. I think it was the Wometco Theater.

Does anyone remember way back when the Florida Theater was on Hollywood Blvd. downtown? It was on the south side of the street in the 2000 block. I used to see Saturday movies there for a quarter.

Yeah, I'm old.

Yes, yes I DO remember that old theater! I saw Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs there! And no, we aren't old, we're just ripe! LOL!

I also love breakfasts at Jack's Diner and at Lester's Diner, too, although that isn't in Hollywood. When I was just a toddler or maybe a little bit older, I remember getting hamburgers at the old Royal Castle at the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and 441. And the Lum's used to be in the plaza behind there. Loved the hot dogs cooked in beer! Two excellent places that are still around are Sonny's on 66th Avenue off of Taft and London Ben's Fish and Chips in the Kmart Plaza at 441 and Washinton. Sonny's was just featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The steak and meatball subs are SO delicious!

I only just began watching Burn Notice this past summer, bought the first two seasons to catch up and noticed that they've filmed quite a few parts of it in and around Hollywood. The Broadwalk, the Downtown area (the Hollywood Bread building got a cameo) are the main areas I noticed. But, if you guys haven't seen that show yet, you should either check out the DVDs or catch it when it comes back this January with new shows. Even with its flaws, Florida IS one of the most beautiful states.

Why even mention Raleigh or Asheville .... the first , especially is the epitome of blandness and boredom why not use Sarasota or Ponte Vedra ... or smaller awesome towns or areas in Florida like Dunedin or Palm Beach County or even Stuart ... what is the fixation everyone on here has with North Carolina ???

Here meaning where .... please explain ?

I do not hang out anywhere in South Florida where prostitutes hang out openly , nor do I frequent establishments with hookers soliciting business ... maybe you need to to move to a better area ( wink , wink , nudge , nudge ? ) I have never seen hookers in downtown Hollywood or the board walk ... that is not to say there may not be hookers in outlying areas , but I have not seem them . If you live somewhere , and see them on a daily basis , then you to need to move to a better area of town .

Default Question about the Radius Condos

My wife and I are thinking about buying a condo at the Radius complex. What do you think: good idea or bad? Thanks.
