Tan, all those western states are. With the exception of the Pacific Northwest of course. The sun BLAZES out west, I mean that too! There's an old saying in Phoenix, you'll see everyone running around saying, "The weather is beautiful today", and that means it's a cloudy day. The people get sick and tired of the constant sunshine, therefore, overcast brings a feeling of relief and pleasure.

I'm talking about states like Kansas, Nebraska, etc also. The west is VERY sunny!

I'm not sure if it is quite that high pitt, but you are right - The western part of the US is much sunnier as in there are no clouds in th the sky. Crazy right?

I thought this thread was about UNHAPPY CITIES, not the weather!!

Back to the main topic guys....

To sum it up, Depression and Happiness are mental states. While a sunny day may help some to a certain extent, if you are miserable by nature, no sun or moon will make you happy. I am from NYC, and am aware of things like winter blues. However me, and probably millions of other New Yorkers were not depressed or unhappy during the winters. I am not speaking for every New Yorker, but you all get my point.

Example: I actually look forward to cool cloudy days sometimes. I'm not depressed, nor a nut case.

I NEVER knew (especially when considering places like Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado) until I actually spent time out there. The BIG downside about the West, is how DRY it is! I'd say atleast 1/3 of the US is desert (whether it's high or low desert).

No place in NY made that list. In fact there was a thread on the NY forum about why NYC didn't. Most people would think that it would, especialy with the downturn in the economy, Wall Street, etc. Not to say that individual people there aren't, but given all the bad things that have happened, as in 9/11, it kind of steels you to everything else. Maybe.

Actually, the only time I can even say that I am somewhat happy in Florida is at night when the moon is out, there is darkness, cool air with a breeze, and there is total silence. I even get up early (4 AM) for work, just so I can sit outside on my lanai and kinda recharge my batteries for what the daytime brings.

I have always been a night person even in NY, and even as a child.

Yep, someone had an article about the depressed cities so I looked it up and they have the stats and I was so surprised. Seattle is pretty gloomy though.

If Seattle didn't have a beautiful downtown and surrounding area, not to mention the scenery out there, that place would be the pits!

To be honest, there is no such thing as an unhappy city. Such thing to rate shows some people and companies have either too much time or too much money .

Also guys, these are stats with samples. They don't represent anything more than the group of people questioned.

Happiness is not confined to just a city, country etc....It's a mental and emotional state for the individual in question.

Today I may be happy, tomorrow I may be grumpy. That's anywhere, anytime.

Now, I'm mad .....Just kidding..

Enjoy your weekend guys. Dont let stats dictate anything.
