I have lived in both places: 12 years in Hollywood and almost 2 in Connecticut. I hated the heat in the FL summer: it is really not the intensity, although the humidity in CT in nothing compared to South FL, but the length. By end of end of August you just have enough of it and you have another two months to go. I hate the lack of light in CT in the winter, the way the freezing temperature welcomes me out of the house in the morning, the chill getting out of the shower, getting dressed in layers over layers, taking forever to get my 5 year old ready to go outside.

I choose South FL in the end. Heat can be mitigated by staying inside (just like in the northern winter) but also going to the beach and wading in the pool. Months of lack of sun light can not be mitigated in any way. It is hot in the FL summer and summers are much too long. But darkness and cold weather gets you also. The gloomy winter skies of the north east are no better than the heat.

In the end, it is just a matter of personal taste: neither place is better or worse, your physiology and your mood decides which one is better for you.

It all depends on what kind of snow blower you have. Some of them aren't strong enough to haul 15 inches of snow.

I hear ya, but the argument won't fly with most on here. While the weather here is very moderate/nice during the winter months, we get brutal, brutal heat and humidity about 6 months out of the year where you cannot walk outside of your house for 2 seconds without breaking a sweat. The heat takes a toll on most here, so its really a trade-off between snow in the winter where you are and heat in the summer/most of the year here. Also, we get hurricane scares at least once per year which causes schools and businesses to close, and people to have to panic, scramble to board up their houses and pick up supplies waiting in long lines for batteries, water, money, and canned foods. We also have flash flooding, tornadoes, lightning, and power-outages multiple times per year. Would you rather have 15 inches of snow or 15 inches of storm water to contend with? I think you'd take snow. So its not like life is so much easier here.
My post was to be light hearted and not illicit a serious dialog about whats better.
We could into pros and cons forever. So, did you fill that driveway up yet?

I work for a company that is based in Northford , CT so I go up there for a few days every other month for meetings . Yes the spring and fall are nice but the summers can feel just like South Florida and the winters are brutal . I am not enamored of CT ... I find many of the residential areas to be dreary and gray and simply cannot get into seeing those tiny dumpy wooden houses on huge lots ... I also find Hartford to be pretty nasty and as bad as anything we have down here ... bottom line is you could not pay me enough to live in Connecticut . The only places that I love in the North East are Manhattan and Boston ... the rest you can have !!

I can't speak for DC, but when I lived in Maryland, I never remember it ever feeling as hot or as cold as NY. Believe me it gets very sticky here. I have been to both Florida in the middle of July and NY and MD and I will say that Florida nights tend to be on the warmer side, but during the day NY could give Florida a run for it's money - Granted you deal with it for a longer amount of time. But, I will say hands down, I have both winter and summer and gladly do things outside much easier in the warm weather. Just to give you a clue - it is 2 today with the wind chill factor. Ahh winter is grand - NOT!

Thank you Rock - I feel the same way about the summers - HOT IS HOT - I mean as I stated before, I won't speak to places I haven't been, but I know NY gets hell-a-hot in the summer and I think a lot of times we had warmer temps than my bro-in-law in Ft. Lauderdale - he had 89 with humidity we had 92 with humidity. It's kind of like those people who say Vegas is better, its DRY - are you kidding me 110 is 110 - okay so it only feel like 100, but when your shoes melt onto the pavement because it is so hot, umm then it is really just hot dry or not.

However, I will agree with VVolin - neither is better or worse - all depends on preference.

When my skin feels like it is melting off because of the heat, it is all the same to me and I'd much rather have a pool, whether in my back yard or in my complex to jump into in that heat. Whether those of you who live in florida choose to do that or not is a whole other story! At least you have the choice!
80% humidity would be pleasant for us, lol. Try it for 6 months, non-stop.

Fill your driveway with 15" of dirt.
Shovel before work.
Repeat 3-4 times yearly
To get the full effect, do it wet and cold, and when your done
have someone with a bulldozer fill in the end of the driveway with the sand you moved to simulate a northern plow truck driver.

Any questions?
Most true Floridians, the very few left anyway, wouldnt want to move to a place like NY or Rhode Island anyway. They are moving to places like Northern Georgia and Tennessee, where you can get 4 seasons, and feel the cold temperatures, but nothing like what these pictures are showing.

For the most part, Florida is filled with people from the Northeast, so they already know what it's like when they see these pictures. I'm just sayin'.

Give me the humidity, flash flooding, frenzied last minute shopping, over all that snow ANY DAY!
Granted, that picture is a beautiful site to behold, but like I said TO BEHOLD, not to beshovel.
