Wish it was as easy as you taking my place and me moving down to take yours. And yeah, I don't buy in to hype easily. I know what I want for myself in life, not what someone else wants with theirs.
I would trade you in a new york min. There is many that is happy here. I'm just not one of them. I miss hearing thank you when you leave Mcdonalds drive thru. I know that seems petty and very small but watching people fight seniors in the line at publix and just flat out being rude. I cant take it anymore. there is just more neg here for me then positive for me.
I need to be more rural then I am.

Tonyc are you from NY? Just curious you keep mentioning NE rather than any state specifically. Honestly, I think I would like North Carolina much more than Florida, but I know that I can't get my husband to move there. I imagine that the job situation is even worse there though.

plovedupont - what part of Florida are you in. You realize that it is so strange to hear you refer to NY'ers as nicer than perhaps a floridian. I happen to think NY'ers get a bad rap. I'm very nice to people who are nice to me. Funny story, I gave a stranger a ride to the airport...she was going back home (michigan) and the train got rerouted of course taking her completely off the beat, it was raining/snowing and freezing outside. She asked me for directions to LaGuardia by buys and I gave them, but lived close to the airport, so I offered her a ride. She thought I was kidding and when she found out I wasn't, would not believe that I was born and raised in NY. I'm quoting her "Wait 'til I get home and tell everybody a real NY'er gave me a ride to the airport and didn't even as for money" - true story, I promise you.

I live in Deerfield beach, in Broward county. I am between Fort Lauderdale and Boca. I have some really good friends that are from New York and they are so great we spend all the holidays with them. I dont think New Yorkers are rude. They are busy and dont always take the time to stop and chat but when they do they are very nice people for the most part and I lived up state for a while. I use to visit the city weekly and I've got to be honest. I've seen things down here that I didnt see in the city.

You might not like the City if you had to live here. Are you a native to Florida or are you originally from NY. I feel the opposite, I think that for the most part the Floridians that I dealt with were very nice, not all, but not all people are nice any where you go.

Dear OP,

I don't know what sports your kids are into, but I found that there are so many opportunities for kid's sports here. Whenever I bring my 3-yr old to the playground in the Weston Regional Park, there are always baseball/softball, soccer, in-line hockey, basketball league going on. And this goes on for most of the year (except for the summer months).

We moved here about 8 months ago and the pros outweigh the cons. The following are the biggest shockers to our family.

1. Spanish - Many ppl speak Spanish, which was a shock initially. But we got used to it. They have no problem talking to me in English.
2. Bad driving - speeding, no turn-lights, cut-ins, no yielding, even no stopping at stop signs. We were surprised but got used to it.
3. Bad service - We are from upstate NY, where things were slow but with great service. Unless you are super-rich, it's hard to get quality service especially in medical and retails. We just lowered our expectations. My wife gets genuinely surprised when a clerk is nice to her.

But there are so many good things here. It's too early to conclude, but we are very happy down here.

I moved to South Florida 9 years ago. The first three years I was here, I hated so many things about the place. I tried to go back to the Tampa area every chance I could to see my family and friends there. Then I started to do those things that I did somewhere else here and met new friends down here. Now I don't ever want to move anywhere else in Florida. I've traveled to many places on business and visited many states. I still enjoy coming back to South Florida because it has become home now for me and my family. Any place can be home to anyone if you're willing to be a part of the place. I also have co workers that relocated here and just never understood or liked this place. They never really gave it a chance so they just moved back to where they came from. It's not for everyone, but you have to be open minded and willing to accept things for what they are and filter all the things you dislike instead of using it as reason to build on your dislike for this place.
