Also Elbo Room - Fort Lauderdale Beach Bar down at the beach is one place you might wish to go.

Things to do Las Olas Jazz festival the first Sunday of every month 11 am to 2 pm is a great place to meet people and enjoy the area along Riverwalk https://www.goriverwalk.com/1124/riv...ing-activities

As for friendly, you will usually get what you give, a smile will most often be rewarded with smiles back.

If you happen to rent in a condo complex, then you should get lots of activities emailed to you.

Good luck, hope some of that helps.
You left out Southport Raw Bar!
I think I have a headache just from the thought of how many nights I closed that place down...

We walk to that Publix on Andrews all the time although you are going to be much closer.

It is extremely safe, it is across the street from the Police Department

Lots of people ride their bike.

Fair warning, it is packed at lunch.

Ok, first off, it's Not Route 1 - it's Federal Hwy... Route 1 means you're new to the area and call it that - or US1... to show you're not new to s. florida, call it 'Federal'...

The OP is new to the area and plenty of people call it US1.

I've lived here for nearly 65 years and I call it US 1. (Sometimes I call it Federal Highway, too.)

First, if you refer to a map of U.S. standard metropolitan statistical areas, you will see that the Washington and Baltimore metro areas share a border. No separation -- just a lot of urban sprawl throughout the D.C.-Baltimore corridor. The metro areas always seemed to blend together on my handful of drives between the cities.

Second, two hours between D.C. and Baltimore? It just ain't true. The city centers are approximately 40 miles apart (central Fort Lauderdale and central Miami are about 25-30 miles). No way that should take two hours, unless there's bad traffic (always a possibility in such a populous corridor) or you're stuck behind a driver going 20 mph. On my last trip to that area, I made the drive from the Arlington, Va., area to Baltimore in just under an hour, albeit during non-peak traffic. At any rate, two hours implies the cities are 100 or so miles apart, which simply isn't so. Matter of fact, I've made the Baltimore-Philly drive in less than two hours, and the central cities are considerably farther apart than Washington-Baltimore.

And I still stand by my original comment, which is that the D.C. and Baltimore areas ARE adjacent, as are Broward and Miami-Dade (again, the SMSA map backs this up) and that in terms of demographics, culture and atmosphere they are every bit as different as Broward and Miami-Dade, perhaps even more so.
Downtown FLL and downtown Miami are only 27 miles apart and there is a direct route- 95 that goes in a straight line between them, yet it still takes 45 minutes-1 hour usually barring an accident. Arlington, VA to Baltimore, is more like 45 miles directly, but you have to go in a circle around the Beltway before you can head north, so it adds mileage. 45 minutes seems wildly optimistic unless you drive at night and don't tap the brakes the entire way. If it only takes 45 minutes, then D.C.-Baltimore's traffic must be very overrated.

There is more open land between Baltimore and D.C. than Miami-FLL, and FLL is considered within the Miami metro area. As opposed to Baltimore/D.C. really being separate metro areas.

Nonsense. First time I've ever heard anyone suggest "US1" is for newcomers. It's called US1 all the time. I'd say more people call it US1 than Federal Highway. The key is to just know it's interchangeable. Some signs say "US1" and not federal highway. And when it says "Federal Highway" it'll almost always say "US1" also, but not vice versa. If you are coming out of the airport, it won't say "Federal Highway" - only "US1", for example.

I thought it was kind of funny that he moved to Los Olas to live as a young professional.

Los Olas was the place that we would go as young adults in our early 20s to pick up older woman in their mid to late 30s. Which is hilarious because I'm in my 40s now and definitely don't see girls in their 30s as older woman... haha.
