The now defunct Tam O'Shanter golf club, about a mile south of Century Village Deerfield, is now being turned into a cemetery. Well, half of it anyway. The former owners were so eager to get out from under a dead golf course that they gave half to the city for a park and the other half will be a cemetery.

This is after years of trying to build housing there and being turned down by every commission. If the Century Village wants to change its use, it will be years of negotiations.

Fortunately (for Century Village Deerfield Beach) they do not own the land where the golf course was. So now there is just a nice golf course, without the holes, tees, or anything else. The owner keeps it mowed so it looks very nice.

Wow...i can't believe they are actually considering a Cemetery?

Live, Die and be buried in CV. Now it could really be called "Cemetery Village!"

Hopefully someone from there will chime in. The HOA in Century Village, Deerfield Beach is upwards of $400/month, depending on the particular condo.

We have just learned Toll Brothers, the home builders, is in negotiation with the golf course owners in Century Village Deerfield Beach to buy the land for townhouses.

It varies by condo. There are several associations within Century Village Boca, where I live. Each month, to my condo association, I pay $257.68 for the recreation fee (that is all the amenities) plus $182.91 for the maintenance fee, for a total of $440.59 I know that in other associations it can be a little more. But everything here is maintained very well, the landscaping is great, and the pools are serviced frequently.

CV Boca has more expensive units and is the nicest of the 4 CV properties. Deerfield is older and not as nice which is reflected in its lower prices. Most of the Deerfield units don't even have central air but rather window units.

Remember for many of these buyers, the sq ft sizes was what they were used to in their rent controlled apartments. These were never intended for wealthy folks downsizing from their 5 bedroom Long Island homes! I think some CD posters have family that live there and they don't want to believe that they live in a poor area but then again they are probably the same type that brag that their family moved down to Flariduh and got a beautiful condo near Bocahh.......(after all Century Village Deerfield is about 1 mile from the Boca line)

Very inaccurate. Most HAVE central air. Not poor people at all. What's wrong with you.

Yes you are correct. The toll brothers will be building on the golf course. They will only use some of the golf course. The rest will be turned into a park for use by the residence. They are also in the process of rebuilding the gate houses.

CityGuy is a bigoted person, classifying "poor people" in CV. Really???

Like someone else said, all the snowbirds have second homes here. The winters here are fabulous. And the people here don't look poor to me. But if someone isnt wealthy and considered "poor" does that make them any less of a person??

OK - the latest is: the golf course has been de-commissioned and a permit is being issued to make it a passive park, which will belong to Century Village. A certain number of acres of this land that fronts Military Trail has been reserved by Toll Brothers to build townhouses on.

Haven't seen too many poor people here - the HOA's are climbing up to $500 in most of the units, and the taxes are round about $2,000/year. No homesteads for most people because these are their second homes, mostly.

Correct. Not as "cheap" as some think. It's very well maintained.
