My worst fear is diving into a swimming pool only to find there's a python in there.
You could look in a pool before you jump in.be more aware of where you are walking just be awake and alert as to whats ahead.turn your shoes upside down before you put them on as they make a nice environment for scorpions and spiders. Plenty of bugs and critters in Fla as they prefer Floridas heat as well as humans..
That said chances of running into a snake or venomous insect are rare.

Can't blame you for that. Although I see snakes as any other form of wildlife, I give them respect, and a little more room.....

That's a pretty ignorant way of thinking.
Snakes are highly beneficial and fascinating.
You need to be educated about them.

Don't know how close this is to FT Lauderdale but this one at a deer and another one swallowed a gator.

Python in Everglades swallows 76-pound deer whole

In 2 years I've seen one wild here in Lauderdale. It was sunning itself by my front door when I got home from work last Friday. Long, thin, grayish brown. I think we scared the hell out of each other as is took off fast and my pulse went up a bit.

I have lived in Florida for 45 years and I have never seen a snake except at the zoo. No worries here. I would stop watching those Swamp shows.

Went for a bike ride and found this (the sidewalk is literally at the edge of the Everglades)

I've never seen any snakes in Ft. Lauderdale but that's not the habitat they prefer. FL as a whole is a different story. From my youth up many thousands I have come across. I don't watch swamp shows but venture into the swamps on their turf. I'm just waiting for the Burmese pythons and anacondas to wander over to the east coast to eat cats, dogs, and small kids.
