There is no such thing as a poisonous snake that is not deadly. Not here at least.
Some can die from eating peanuts too. 8000 poisonous snakebites per year in US. Roughly 10 deaths. For perspective: 40-50 die from bee stings. 90 from lightning.

Default Snakes

My cousin lives in the panhandle in Seagrove Beach. He said so many people moved in that were afraid of snakes they killed any they saw. Now the area is inundated with rats. Several very expensive beach houses had to be evacuated and professionals brought in and they killed hundreds of rats in each house. He too has had rats in his attic. DONT KILL THE SNAKES.

I can understand your concern. I have an irrational fear of snakes. I will literally become paralyzed with fear when I see one. I'm sure there's a pill that would cure the problem, but I have a fear of them too .

I visit Florida often, and the only time I've ever seen a snake was in the Everglades. It was wrapped around a tree branch. I saw a least 100 gators, but for some reason they don't freak me out.

Hey, you forgot the Pygmy rattlesnakes!
Technically there are snakes with venom here in Florida that are not deadly.
The crowned snakes, for example. Another technicality (I, myself, don't care for these technicalities(!))....the copperhead's range crosses the Georgia/Florida border in one little location.

We lived in Davie out west close to US 27 and never saw a rattler. I did see many red ringers and green garden snakes but both are harmless. Now when whe lived in South Carolina it was a different story. I saw and killed a few rattlers.

Thanks, all... this is a hilarious thread. For the record, when I lived in Coral Springs, I probably saw 4 or 5 snakes in 4 years... I didn't kill them but would shoo them away because my wife would become paralyzed with fear and do a little dance that I found quite hilarious. So why kill the source of such entertainment?

We recently visited Florida (Orlando) on a family holiday and spotted a snake @ Busch gardens and no, it wasnt one of the ones behind a glass screen :-) We also saw 2 gators whilst out and about. One @ KSC and the other one was in a lake out near Clermont.

Also saw a Palmetto is it? and the crickets!!! Wow like our bugs (from UK) on steroids! Its the spiders that worry me more, particularly the idea of a brown recluse....yikes

We have seen Black Racers, Ringnecks and little green garden snakes. The Racers are the largest, they bite and they are aggresive. I see them during the day a lot sunning themselves. They are not poisonous. If you startle one or corner it, it will rear up at you like a cobra. I've even seen one do this from the surface of our pool. They don't back down until you retreat.

The Ringnecks are poisonous (not deadly though) but they are very docile and usually fairly small. When we see one, my husband catches it and lets the kids handle it. Usually we only see them when we are gardening and disturb them because they are more nocturnal.

I don't know what the little green snakes are that my kids see at school but they are afraid of people and quickly seek cover if encountered.

I have never seen a snake in any of the more urban areas like Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pompano Beach. The western suburbs like Sunrise, Coral Springs, Parkland ect tend to be where you'd see them.
Thanks, this is so informative. Do you know any people who have been bitten by those snakes before though?
