You mentioned Miramar being on a downturn, Lauderdale Lakes and Oakland Park are both worse than Miramar. Moderator cut: Moderator cut: racist a lot of shady neighborhoods and trouble.

Swapping a higher end home to live in a relatively bad area in a declining community seems like an awful idea.

I'm in this area everyday as I work near Executive. Wouldn't recommend it at all for your situation. Look for Weston, West Pembroke Pines, Southwest Ranches, Davie, Cooper City, Parkland.

Thanks. And for the record, I'm not 'defining a 'bad' area by race' - just that the demographics show that this area is not as racially balanced (and I do mean 'balanced') as I'd prefer it to be, but more than that the schools seem to have a few issues.

There are other suburbs in the area that are better. Lauderdale Lakes is one of the last places I'd recommend to live. Have you checked out Sunrise? Deerfield Beach? Tamarac? Coconut Creek? Those are mostly decent areas to live. There are others too, just depending on what prices you're looking for. I would be VERY careful with anything in Lauderdale lakes. Take a trip here

We're open to anything really - Sunrise would be great for me (Ikea, haha), have friends all around south florida. I lived in Kendall some years back, also spent some time in living in Tampa.

If public schools are important, I would have it narrowed down like this

(First choice)

Parkland
Weston
Cooper City
Davie (west)

(Second choice)

Coral Springs
Pembroke Pines (west of Palm Ave)
Miramar (west of Flamingo Rd)
Coconut Creek (north)

(If only elementary schools are important)

The rest of Pembroke Pines
The rest of Coconut Creek
Most of Sunrise (west of Pine Island Rd)
Some of Miramar (checkerboard pattern, check individual schools)
Most of Plantation (west of the turnpike)
Parts of Fort Lauderdale (checkerboard pattern, check individual schools)
Hollywood (only Hollywood Hills)
Pompano Beach (only east of Dixie Hwy)

Although there are plenty of other decent neighborhoods, I would say to forget them if public schools are important.

Coconut Creek HS is awful. Coral Springs HS is awful, although the other HS in Coral Springs are ok (Coral Glades, Taravella).

Sunrise out West is decent, Sunrise East of University or even Pine Island is much the same as Lauderdale Lakes and Lauderhill.

That's why he put Coconut Creek (north) meaning Monarch high school. Monarch is a very good school.

Yeah-Monarch's ok. The problem is that people who don't know the area see Coconut Creek and assume the HS with the same name is ok. Same with Coral Springs. Coral Springs HS is crummy but the rest of the schools there are ok.
