As far as the potato salad, consider a horseradish potato salad. Everyone thinks of horseradish with beef, but it goes beautifully with ham, too.
Ooh, that sounds good. There's also Swedish Potato Salad. I always swore that my Mom made the best potato salad ever until I had a friend's Swedish Potato Salad. I could have eaten the entire bowl, it was that good! (Sorry, Mom).
Yep, the mac & cheese sounds good too, but the broccoli casserole will be cheesy. Don't want to bind everyone up, lol!
Horseradish...I used to always buy a bottle of Woebers Horseradish sauce when we had Honey Baked Ham. Somewhere along the line their recipe changed and now it's just an oily unpleasant mess.
Tried making my own Horseradish sauce. It was okay but I've forgotten all about it. I may try to make a batch if I can find fresh horseradish at the grocery.

Have you ever tried Jezebel Sauce with ham? It contains horseradish and it’s really good.
Jezebel Sauce
Ingredients
1 (5 oz.) jar apple jelly
1 (5 oz.) jar pineapple preserves
1/3 cup prepared horseradish
1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Directions
In a medium bowl, whisk together apple jelly, pineapple preserves, horseradish, dry mustard, black pepper and crushed red pepper until smooth. Refrigerate overnight or until ready to serve.
Store, refrigerated, in an airtight container or jar for up to two weeks.
For a casual family Christmas gathering of 7 adults...do you think it's odd to serve cold Honey Baked Ham (our usual) with hot side dishes?
Ham - cold
Green Beans with onions and ham
Broccoli Cheese Casserole
Cornbread
Baked Beans with bacon
Macaroni Salad - cold
In the past we've had potato salad, tossed green salad, deviled eggs and baked beans.
No one seems to want potatoes any more and the tossed green salad requires a few salad dressing choices.
So I want to change things up a bit but wondering about the cold ham with hot sides.
I do not want to heat the ham.
Any other ideas?
I will be cooking at home and driving to family home..
Me personally, I prefer cold ham. I don't know why, but hot ham seems to bring out the salt in the ham, which I don't like. Cold ham...doesn't seem so salty to me.
And I don't know...maybe bring some good bread, condiments, and pineapple slices? (the bread is to make a sandwich, and I love pineapple with ham.)
I prefer room temperature. Sometimes when we get a Honeybaked, we’ll warm it up first and then set it out for an hour or two while preparing all the sides
I like room temperature, too. I don't need hot, but don't want cold. That's probably what august moon will be serving.
Thanks for that recipe, gentlearts. I have not tried it but it sounds good!
And...pineapple sounds good too!
Thanks again for all your thoughts.
