Tech Leaders Fled San Francisco During the Pandemic. Now, They’re Coming Back.
Founders and investors who moved to Miami and elsewhere are returning to a boom in artificial intelligence and an abundance of tech talent

“The reality is that the brainpower is here” in San Francisco, said Max Gazor, a general partner at the venture firm CRV and board member at Airtable. “It’s especially true for AI, given the light speed at which these companies have innovated.”

Have you read the entire WSJ article? Can you post a snippet of it? I don't want to subscribe just to read this article. Thanks!

Even local papers have this subscribe crap too now. I've pretty much given up on print press as well.

Not much in it. One guy is moving parts of his business back to SF. San Francisco has Stanford in its backyard. Just read Goldman is expanding its footprint in Miami. Wouldn’t take this as any sort of bellwether.

How exactly do you expect media companies to stay in business if they don't charge the reader to consume the content? Do you expect media companies to work for free? Do you work for free?

The highly educated workforce produced by the California universities means that CA will always draw cutting edge tech business. California is a pioneer in STEM, engineering, and computer science. Florida has no Berkeley, has no Cal Tech, has no Stanford, no brain trust by comparison.

The CA labor pool is further enriched by hard-working and ambitious immigrants from many lands, and the stunning landscapes, perfect weather, and many parks/outdoor activities (beaches, skiing, mountains, desert) make CA an extremely desirable place for many people (yes despite the homeless and the locked up toothpaste). It's why even despite all the headlines about "people fleeing California", that state continues to attract hordes of new residents, paying millions of dollars for its real estate.

Yeah, because before the internet was available, everyone had to PAY for their daily newspaper.

Now, everyone thinks they're entitled to free content.

To keep it on topic:

The above is WHY people came to Florida from California, are now leaving Florida, and returning to California.
