Suicide from depression is more tragic than this. This is just incredibly stupid beyond reason.

Default America's deadliest railroad: Florida's Brightline

I guess they didn't see this coming.....or maybe they did

"its track fatality rate is THREE TIMES higher than nation's second-worst line"

"At least 108 people have died on Brightline tracks since it began operations in July 2017, or roughly one death for every 38,000 miles traveled, the worst rate in the nation and three times higher than the second-worst railroad, according to an Associated Press analysis."

"In those cases, and many of the other fatalities, drivers appear to be ignoring crossing lights and driving around gates as they try to outrun the train. Most other fatalities on Brightline tracks appear to be suicides."

"Brightline has not been faulted for operator or equipment error in any of the fatal incidents, but the alarming statistics have raised questions about what can be done to reduce deaths along the company's tracks."

"Half of those killed by Brightline trains were listed as either walking or running on the tracks"

Why do people try to go around the gates?

Suicide, under the influence, old and confused, misjudged train speed thinking it was a slower train.

Grade level crossing and also people walking along the tracks.

Apparently there is a map of rail accident locations but it was paywalled at a Miami Herald article and the NTSB website is garbage to use so I gave up.

I predicted Brightline would be deadly long before construction began...as soon as I saw the proposed routes going right through the center of populated areas...duhh.

I also predicted before construction began that Brightline would lose Millions, maybe Billions, & then the gov't will bail it all out using taxpayer money...its so predictable.

There is no chance of Brightline running safely, or profitably...just forget that notion.

I've driven drunk (not proud to say.) Driving drunk slows down reaction timing. Doesn't really make that much of an impact on choices like driving around crossing gates.
