It's completely natural and expected given how food is grown and transported. And one reason why you're supposed to wash off fresh produce before consuming/cooking. Absent there being signs of an infestation that consumed much of the plant and helped lead to rot. I'd wash and eat.

….. It’s a spider….
Even a spider “infestation” shouldn’t be a deterrent. Spiders don’t eat plants. Just wash them off.

No big hairy deal about a cider spider on something unless it is a big hairy spider.

I had a living worm in a piece if fish from Publix. I took it back and got a credit. If I had a bug in produce of any kind, I’d just dispose of it and eat the rest.

I avoid organic produce because it’s likely to have dirt or bugs…which I’m not paying extra for, but I realize that bugs are a part of the farming process.

Pretty much all wild fish has worms. People don’t realize that. Nothing to be alarmed about.

Spiders and bugs are crawling all over the lettuce in the field.
Personally, I can't imagine why people eat lettuce, but if you are going to just wash it off. Lettuce has no taste; maybe the spider does.

This is in a Florida post? Do you know how many spiders and insects there are in Florida?!

If I found a spider in my lettuce I would absolutely post a poll about it on the Florida forum of city-data.

Stop buying Romaine lettuce, switch to iceberg lettuce. Spiders clearly have a preference.
