absolutely, sometimes where you dictate what a business can and can not do....they pack up and leave

that's the fine line you walk

Alabama is even worse in that regard. We joke that a third of the Alabama condoms revolves around people filing lawsuits against each other.

I’m trying to think of a state that doesn’t have lawsuit issues and failing- American culture as a whole just can’t split off ‘we need to discourage people and businesses from behaving maliciously or carelessly, and here’s an incentive for them to shape up’ from ‘Look! Free money!’ And that’s unhealthy for society as a whole in all kinds of ways.

And that walk has been done poorly. It’s hard given the challenging conditions you get in Florida but looking over the legislation that was recently passed, it reduces consumer protection while at the same time, I’m not sure it will actually fix some longstanding issues- just getting rid of assignment of benefits is unlikely to be enough. The scammers are already likely figuring out ways around it.

Yes, let's all hide the secrets, so that others won't know how bad things are here. How many Insurance Companies have walked away from homeowners since Hurricane Ian. Until it happens to you, it's all unicorns and rainbows. Let's all "hold our breath" for another season and hope everything just passes by and destroys someone else's town. The people in Fort Meyers area are still rebuilding from the last Monster. Also, some of the larger insurers are being very restrictive with new policies. Something is ROTTEN in Denmark!

I emailed my sister back on 12 July, as per posting #4 in this thread.

As of 23 Aug 2023, my sister reports this about Fort Myers from her daughter who has lived there for 20 years. I've deleted their names for privacy. Sad mess. I hope the state of FL (or FEMA) steps in to get people what they're due.

Quote:
Yep, this is what happened to (daughter). The estimate for a new roof was over $8,000 and they got $1100. Thanks goodness they had backup funds.

(Daughter) says debris is still piled sky high everywhere. What was a 10 minute commute to her work is now over an hour as most of the roads she once used are still not clear.

SUCKS big time. (Daughter's guy) works mostly in Naples, and while his drive time is better than hers, he said it takes him 15-20 minutes longer. But due to the hurricane he has more work than he can handle, so his does his oldest, cash paying customers first and if payment is by insurance companies he will not do it because of the situation going on down there, he tells people it has to be cash because he himself suffered loses with his insurance company.
Now we have another storm on the way.

That's some seriously knock on wood talk considering where you've mentioned living.

Your corvette might become a boat, goat.

Seriously, I hope you are taking this seriously. Best of luck.
