I've NEVER understood the attraction to Doc Martens. I tried a pair on once, 'just because,' and thought, well, if I was going into the Army maybe.....but nah....
I'm a big fan of Taos brand shoes and have two pairs (brown and black) of the boot pictured below. That said, I paid nowhere near the price shown here......but I bought them about 3 yrs ago. Inflation? wow. These were super comfortable right out of the box.
Since you have to keep your items to a minimum have you ever tried Rothy's? I have several pairs and I love them. They don't offer much in the way of support so they wouldn't work for walking long distances but when I volunteer I'm on my feet for many hours and they're so comfortable. A pair of round toed Rothy's in a neutral color (beige/tan) would work with almost anything.
As for the two red sandals, the second, more casual one would be my choice. In one of my careers I was a personal shopper for a large department store and I loved putting together wardrobes for my clients.
every time i wear my Doc Martens i get compliments. that's not why i wear them. but people comment and smile. Two days ago at work i had to go in for Covid testing and the nurse who did the PCR test said his daughter has 3 pairs and don't let her see those pink ones of mine or it would be pair number 4 for her. How many shoes are there that a kid in grade school (his daughter) and a 64-year-old little old lady (me) can both get really happy about wearing.
This thread helped me see the dress differently, thanks everyone! I'd really like to get into wearing dresses more because it's a one-and-done outfit as opposed to having to put together separates.
