SoCal...not sure you realized this but you responded to an 11 year old thread.

FWIW, as much as I love Puerto Rico, I prefer Mexican food. . There's only so much mofongo and steak encebollado. I do like Arroz con Gandules.

I used to live in El Paso...

An actual Puerto Rican Market? Outside of LA, NYC, and Miami I don't think that you will find an actual Puerto Rican Market. In El Paso, there have always been a handful of Puerto Rican Restaurants close to Fort Bliss on Dyer Street and also off of I-10 just south of base. They were all good restaurants, but normally only stayed open for a year or two.

The only Puerto Ricans that I knew in El Paso were in the military or a military dependent. So if you get to know some Army folks, then you might get a better insight to Puerto Rican food and the PR community in El Paso.

Los Angeles. There are actually some really good Puerto Rican restaurants and even some small Puerto Rican shops in LA.

what does that have to do with food? gtfo.

Puerto Rican food uses the same 3 things in every dish. Sofrito, sazón, adobo. Some oil to activate the flavors and the “extra stuff” each individual adds to their touch (which is usually onions, garlic and sometimes olives).

But I do agree it’s better than Mexican food. I’ve tried many places that are “the best place, this time fr” and I’m just not into it. Cuban, Venezuelan and Colombian cuisine I enjoy much more than either.
