My Winston....my boxer...lived to be 16 plus....He lost control of his bowels a month or two before we decided to put him to sleep. He was totally distraught when he's have an accident. But my son was not ready to let him go. My youngest son finally sat him down and told him...Sam...you can't keep Winston alive suffering just because you are going to miss him.

It is so very hard...But it may be time. Sorry.

Thank you everyone!

We did senior blood work in January, and everything was good. After reading all your replies; I took him on March 17th and blood work showed liver function was not normal. Next day we did an ultrasound, and they confirmed there were multiple tumors in his liver and spleen. He only survived 2 weeks and left us on April 3rd. I am heartbroken. Run free Bruno. Mama misses you so much.

Oh, I am so sorry. We know that it's the deal we strike when we take them into our homes and hearts, but it is just so painfully heartbreaking. I am very sorry.

I am so sorry for that. I went through that for 4 years with my dog. Eventually we determined his quality of life was not good and made the decision. At that point he would get lost against walls and in corners and unmentionables that brought me to tears. He never slept with us, but in the laundry room. In the middle of the night he would be crying and we would find him behind the washer and dryer.

We are approaching this difficult situation with our Tobi, an 11-year-old Airedale. He has control but can barely walk more than 60 feet with his arthritic legs. We feed him very early in the morning, one big meal, and then I urge him to walk out in the yard. He'll get a few small treats later, but nothing after 2 PM.

So sorry for your loss.

I am getting there with my 15 year old min-pin mix. She is my heart and I know I will have decisions to make soon....
