I’ve fostered two dogs, which was a lot on top of caring for my own. But one of my friends has four dogs and two cats! It made me wonder how many dogs each of us had.

So. How many dogs do you have? Are they your only pet?

I have a dog and a cat.

Currently three dogs, a Livestock Guardian and two corgis.

Also have 2 horses, 9 goats, 2 sheep, a pig, 15 chickens, and 7 cats. 4 in the house, 3 in the barn.

Hubby and I have fostered dogs for many years. We always had two of our own plus a foster so three dogs at a time. Once the foster was adopted, we were able to take in another foster and on and on it went until ... our foster fail who stayed and made it three permanent dogs of our own.

He had been our foster for nine months and it was clear after many adoption events that no one was going to adopt him so we did and he has been an absolute joy to us. He had been badly abused before he came to us but he is probably the most affectionate dog we have ever had - but only with us. We've had him about 8 years now.

We still fostered even with the three dogs of our own but not as regularly as we had before. For us, three dogs in the house is a good number but everyone's situation is different.

We currently have one dog. Prior to this one, we gradually accumulated, then gradually lost, a "pack" of three dogs. I liked having multiple dogs, but it does take a lot time, energy, and (when things are not going well) money.

No cats because my "other half" is very allergic to them. I really like cats, too, though.

When we were young we usually had several dogs, sometimes cats too, but when we got older the kids had moved away and we had 2 Pekingese dogs, one at a time. First was Sasha and after she died we got Caesar. He died in 2020, we have no pets now.

Generally, never more than 2 dogs at a time as my dogs require several hours of attention/training daily.

I have never had more than 2 dogs at a time. My neighbour has 3 large dogs and I don't know how she manages as I can see her struggling to keep them all together when walking them.
