We have had at least one, mostly two dogs since about 1975. My wife doesn't like small ones because she is worried about tripping over them. Since we are planning to move in the next year we have not replaced our last one, which was a Golden Retriever. Our dog before that was a Bernese Mountain Dog. Both were wonderful dogs, and yes, big. Dog food was never an issue, it was the prices of veterinary care that were more of a concern.
