My 99 lb dog looks very intimidating. Full stop.

He doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, and I have no desire to train that into him. But I can trust in in almost every situation, kids, other pets...he is always mellow (ish... he can want to play in manner that looks like Cujo... we are working on that). Sure he raises his hackles at the fence and gives a few booming barks..... but I know, I would probably have to protect him.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels converted me from big to 'smaller'... but I haven't met many dogs I didn't like more than a lot of humans!

Partial to big dogs (have 2) but love all dogs. Just bought 2 Wisdom Panel kits and look forward to seeing more of what they really are.

I like a small-medium dog. I'm currently living with two cocker spaniels (1 is mine; 1 is a foster) and they're the perfect size at 25-30 pounds. I don't have the space for a very large dog and I don't have the patience for a little yappy dog lol.

I love all dogs but currently have 2 Maltese. Because of my allergies and asthma this is my preferred breed. I have also had a Westie mix and a husky/shepherd mix. Noki was a very smart dog, let the Maltese abuse him and was very protective of me. He wasn’t good for my asthma but at 9 he needed a home since my son was traveling for work and he couldn’t be boarded. I was his 4th home. We had him 6 years until he died.

I love the tiny dogs, too. They can fit just about anywhere and perch on your shoulder and they are smart and trainable and sociable. Bred to cuddle and to be a lap dog. They are real dogs and act like real dogs if you treat them like a real dog. They fit under the airline seat so they are easy to travel with. They are cheap to feed even if they get a luxury diet.

Medium size seems to be a good compromise. They can still do big dog things, you don't have to worry about hawks taking them, and they still fit in your lap, with a bit of scrunching.

I've got two medium sized dogs and it is a good size. Wyatt McRiot is an Australian Shepherd. I can pet him without bending over and he doesn't eat all that much. He's big enough to defend himself against wildlife and he is big enough to protect me, which he has decided is his primary job. He is not too big to fit comfortably into the car for travel.

Seeker is an Epagneul Briton and slightly smaller that Wyatt. He weighed 28 pounds at his last check-up, but he is still growing just a slight bit more. Just a nice size. Big enough to do the job he was bred to do and small enough to fit easily into the house. The breed is known to be a good cuddle lap dog, but unfortunately, Seeker thinks that only babies sit in laps and he is not a baby. Maybe he will get over it as he gets older.

What size do you all like having around the house?

I have two HUGE Labs. I can empathize on the cost of feeding them. With groceries getting so much I have changed their diets. Now I throw them a worthless politician once a week and they are happy. Sure saves on the grub bill and maybe one day it will help the grocery bill situation.

With the exception of my very first dog way, way back, (an Irish Setter), all of my four-legged family members have been smaller breeds. 15-20 pounds or thereabouts. Would love to have a Lab but it has never worked out that way. At my age, probably never will.

I’ve always liked smaller dogs, that I could pick up. As A child we had a chihuahua mix, bigger than a pure chihuahua but still small. When married we had mini dachshunds for many years. Later we got a Pekingese when the kids grew up and left. We got Sasha in 1999 and Caesar in 2007 after Sasha died. They were rescues, probably mixed and different sizes, Sasha was 10 lbs. and Caesar was 20 lbs.
My two brothers always had medium sized dogs.
Our daughter and son in law have 2 chihuahuas. Years ago they had a Yorkie and a Bishon Frise.

My first dog was a chihuahua. I was 5 and had wanted my own dog since I knew what a dog was. My Mom did the research and decided the easiest care dog was a chi. I had to meet the pup's owner and show I could respect the dog due to it's size. I did, and I've had chihuahuas ever since (a few mixed breed in there as well.) I love the personalities, no two were ever alike. Over the years I've had 10 in all, currently have 2. Most were rescues. I love all dogs and actually wish I'd branched out a bit and tried a larger breed. But at my age now I pretty much will stick to the small and mighty chi, LOL. Any future rescues I make will be seniors.

It's the size of the fight in the dog.
