The famous fountain landmark has been shut down since last fall(whether it was from the flooding or not I don't know or if it was from before then). The park feels pretty dirty and run and down, with a lot of trash, even a parking meter machine floating in the giant pool. Not to mention there's tons of homeless people sleeping around that the whole park doesn't even feel comfortable to walk around in. Same with the veterans park a few streets over, homeless people sleeping around or in one case talking crazy outloud while a couple monuments have been defaced. Both parks are a very sorry state of affairs these days, I use to enjoy walking through both but the last couple of years both parks just seem to collapse with no one caring about them and no answers as to why they have been abandoned.
It is a travesty that these parks have been so ineptly mismanaged. The Free Times cover story last week was both insightful and depressing. This has occurred on Mayor Steve's watch. While he was gunning for a new stadium he allowed one of our finer assets to fall into embarrassing disrepair. Why should rehab take "a few years"? Everything around here seems to take a "few years". I'm really disappointed in our civic leaders allowing this park disaster to occur.
^We get it, you don't like the Mayor. The Mayor is only 1 vote out of 7 on City Council. Finlay Park IS in desperate need of renovation, but to place the blame only on the Mayor's shoulders is disingenuous, at best.
Who put Waccamatt in charge of opinions? Geez I never said I disliked the mayor. I've had dinner with him before and he seems sincere. It's not a personal dig just a statement of fact. Your chiding of other people's opinions is unnecessary and presumptuous. What do you think about the park? Have you been there lately? Give other people space to express. I trust you'll permit other opinions?
The city's signature park should not have been allowed to deteriorate - period. And it's not like there's a great riverfront park that took much money away from Finlay.

I think I was watching the work session out of pure boredom and saw they were laughing about some park. The only thing that will be done is a playground replacement, but the major renovation wont come until 2017-2018. I agree the park should be a immediate prioritization.
Finley did fall to the wayside and slid down the priority list
Under mayor Benjamin's watch as Benjamin prefers ball parks to
park parks- I don't think that's a big secret.
But hey let's build a new baseball stadium because that is what is most important right???
