A classic case of mistaken priorities. The signature park and canal in disrepair. And that's what residents and visitors see every day. It makes me sad. Thankfully Riverbanks is not operated by the City of Columbia. Does anyone know when the walkway will be completed between Columbia canal in the zoo? That will be a shot in the arm for a depressed morale.

OK guys, the floods happened AFTER the decision was made to go ahead with the ballpark. And they were once-in-a-lifetime floods so I don't fault the city so much for that. Now the maintenance of Finlay Park (or lack thereof) is definitely of concern and the city needs to tend to that sooner rather than later.

Does Lexington have a minor league aka the old Cap City Bombers with a new stadium ? It wouldn't surprise me if they joined the stadium arms race in their quest for central city status

As far as the condition of the parks. Unfortunately many Columbians take parks for granted or simply don't go to any and think they are something for "those" people especially when it comes to those with rec programs. Doesn't seem to be a solid constiuency city wide mostly only folks advocating for their neighborhood park like say Earlewood thus Finlay and Riverfront with no built in constiuency get lost

the Bombers moved to Greenville and changed their name.

A new team came in from Mobile, and played in the capital city stadum for awhile, and then moved to Lexington and changed name to Lexington County Blowfish (the blowfish is based on Hootie and the blowfish who went to USC)

Yes, construction is expected to start at the end of this year and will be completed next summer at a cost of $7.9 million.

"The proposed Three Rivers Greenway Extension Ph. 1 project incorporates an 8-foot-wide concrete trail that runs from I-26 along the Saluda River, and continues past River Banks Zoo to the confluence of the Saluda and Broad Rivers. Features of the greenway will include boardwalks, Riverbanks Zoo access, a maintenance building, security lighting, renovated boat ramp, parking lot, environmentally-friendly public restrooms, signage and information kiosks."

As long as the county already has the funds in their account to go along with the certification...
Otherwise they might have to wait until their law suit with DOR is resolved and the money starts flowing again, assuming it starts flowing again.

Its interesting that they are called the Lexington COUNTY Blowfish...as opposed to simply the Lexington Blowfish which would successfully represent both the Town and the County. I guess the Town didn't kick in any money so the County holds the naming rights... Another reason for folks west of the river not to set foot in Columbia...I have friends over there that are proud of the fact they don't come to downtown Columbia for some odd reason. Its almost like a badge of honor.... I guess its to show that they are totally independent in the western empire...

I live in Lexington and I spend a good deal of time in downtown Columbia. I am amazed at how many people I know in Lexington that do not go to downtown Columbia.
