i've heard of a plan to put another store in town there, though to be honest i'd be surprised (just my opinion) considering 2 other grocery stores already exist in Chapin. I'd wonder how large the customer base really is, plenty out in the surrounding area but it is also just a short drive down to the WM as well as the nice Publix out on Lake dr.
Guess if one in Chapin was of a smaller footprint it could make some sense; especially if one of the other chains dropped out at some point?
I was up there yesterday, they haven't started yet. I don't think Publix is scared of other stores, so we'll see if it gets built. There is a lot of money in Chapin.

Bi-Lo #5722 (previously Winn Dixie #1010), Chapin Center, 1419 Chapin Road, Chapin, SC 29036, has done very well. Publix would give Bi-Lo competition.
Food Lion has been on a steady decline for several years now. They have steadily closed stores in the Columbia market. Their stores have had issues lacking necessities (i.e. pharmacies), quality, service and value. Store #1511, Amicks Ferry Plaza, 140 Amicks Ferry Road, Chapin, SC 29036-9400 will struggle against Publix. I would not be shocked to see Food Lion close.
Apple products show you that people with money will pay more for name value and the cool factor. Publix stores are cleaner, fresher and more organized than the BiLo and Food Lion. If there's one thing Chapin has is a lot of money.

I am unsure about the future of Bi-Lo. It has redecorated stores; acquired Winn Dixie; acquired Harvey's Reid's and Sweetbay from Food Lion; and acquired 22 Piggly Wiggly Carolina stores, all but one remain in operation. Several stores acquired, specifically in Piggly Wiggly and Reid's, need complete overhauls.
Bi-Lo has been up for sale before. Its footprint in western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina do not involve Kroger. Kroger is looking to enter upstate South Carolina.

i'd definitely think one of the 2 other stores there will not make it; too tough for competition in that market for 3 grocers to be located really within blocks of each other. Add in the short drive to the WM supercenter and there are a lot of options. Heck we lived in Chapin area for 6 years, and rarely shopped at it's grocery stores. It was worth it to us to hit the Publix on Lake Dr (or even Wm/Target), compared to BiLo or Food Lion.
If nothing else, competition makes rivals step up their game, so those existing sites will need to ramp up customer service, etc to maintain their base against the new Publix. Good for the consumers though.
