Or take NJTransit from Perth Amboy to New York Penn Station, Take the 1 subway from Penn Station to South Ferry, take the Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island, take SIRR to Tottenville. One-way trip should take about 4 hours.

Isn't it actually crazy to think how that is the easiest way to get from NJ to Staten Island using mass transit? Especially considering how close NJ and SI are? I think it's nuts that it would take that long. I live less than 10 miles from SI but, like you said, it would take at least 2 hours to get there using mass transit, depending on my final destination on the island.
thanks everyone for your comments. i didn't think there was anything. i wonder why the one bridge you can walk to staten island (bayonne) has an mta bus, but all the others don't.
