Ah, but recently I saw a new twist: a bumper sticker that said "Local" over the green-and-white mountain graphics. Gaaaaaaag!

This is Colorado. We wouldn't even bother lowering the registration price.

Actually, if we were one of those constant redesign states, it's be used as an excuse to charge more. "I'm sorry, you need the 2017 edition plates now. That'll be $50.00 extra. Oh, and you can't register online this year. Gotta go to the tag office and stand in line." Nebraska has that problem, and they hate it.

Just got my permanent plates yesterday for my new car. CO needs to focus on getting their vehicle database updated in a timely manner before worrying about other stuff.

I bought the car in August. Temp plates were good until September 30th. Went to get permanent plates on the 30th of September (had the day off). They still had nothing in the system showing I bought the car, told me they were 2+ weeks behind, gave me a second temp plate, and charged me $7.00 for the privilege.

FINALLY got the postcard in mid October, got the permanent ones yesterday.Total time wasted - 2 hours.

COLORADO...I AM TRYING TO GIVE YOU MONEY! Make it easier!

Oh, man, are they STILL constantly behind in registrations? That's been the case for more than 20 years now, no exaggeration! You get 6 weeks to run temp plates, and it always ends up being at least another 2 to 4 weeks till the permanent plates are assigned.

Or is that only in the Front Range?

Give me a big YES! 50 years of the same base plate design is boring!! I really like example 2.

It's 8 on the temp plates.

And it's at least in Jeffco, but possibly statewide.

I would shorten the length of time to get plates in Colorado, 6-8 weeks is way too long. Make it 2 weeks or soon as possible once moved into new area.

Speaking of license plates ...

I bought a set of two plates at a yard sale awhile ago simply because I liked the number sequence. They are the current default green design, so nothing special and they aren't very old. I recently bought a new truck and it will need plates. As long as I have this set, which is in good shape, can I register them and use them with my new vehicle even though they didn't belong to me originally?

No. You can only register plates given to you at the DMV. You can't just register plates that you found. How is the DMV supposed to know that you didn't just steal them off of someone else's car?
