Why?

Winning.

BTW, when the Phillies won the World Series, they came back as the 7th most valued franchise in the MLB:

Not great.
Where's the data to prove this?

Dark years? Lol. They didn't miss the playoffs more than two years in a row.
Poorly run team, Bourque left, Thornton left.. Just not a lot going on.

You... provided it.....

Look at your 76ers vs. Celtics and Flyers vs. Bruins 2000 and up valuations.

Celtics became the higher valued team in 2005, according to you. Bruins in 2010. Both before the championships, but as a result of good winning years.

I really don't get your confusion.

All that aside there was never any real rivalry and it was a genius promotional tactic on the part of the Red Sox

On the topic of basketball and boxing, Philly produced a lot of talent in both. Boston lacks din Basketball for a long time but might be out producing Philly now, certainly per capita it is. Massachusetts has never lacked for boxing but Philly is the undisputed boxing capital of the US-on every level( aside from holding events, that goes to Vegas). I love boxing and my dad taught it to me. Used to watch it as a family and he taught me all about the Philly style and history etc..
I couldn't care less for baseball personally, so my view of the "rivalry" is interesting all things considered (NY native, etc.)

I will say, George Steinbrenner changed sports by taking money and reinvesting back into the team. That's a fact. Sports was longtime an era where owners were content sitting on their hands.

I'm referring to your imaginary pre-2000 values showing the Celtics and Bruins ahead of the Sixers and Flyers.

It's in bold so you can see it better.

The earliest franchise value data we have shows the Flyers and Sixers ahead of the Bruins and Celtics (and that is a time when there were no titles between any of them), so anytime you say the latter are ahead of the former is conjecture.

That. Is. The. Point. Here.

I had to lead you to the water in this thread, but I think you got it now.

If winning = higher team valuations, that's your answer for why Boston is such a branded, historical sports town.

It's done a lot of that.

Philadelphia wasn't winning anything when it was ahead of Boston.

Boston sports fans are so fickle because TD Garden took a hit then as well.

There wasn't really any sustained losing.
