Yea no you’re right. I don’t like the Yankees because theyre the epitome of corporate sport culture. Clean shaven, huge payroll (before the Sox), clean shaven, in changing black white grey uniforms with boring font, quite players, and scandal free (aside from A rod).
All that aside there was never any real rivalry and it was a genius promotional tactic on the part of the Red Sox
On the topic of basketball and boxing, Philly produced a lot of talent in both. Boston lacks din Basketball for a long time but might be out producing Philly now, certainly per capita it is. Massachusetts has never lacked for boxing but Philly is the undisputed boxing capital of the US-on every level( aside from holding events, that goes to Vegas). I love boxing and my dad taught it to me. Used to watch it as a family and he taught me all about the Philly style and history etc..
I couldn't care less for baseball personally, so my view of the "rivalry" is interesting all things considered (NY native, etc.)
I will say, George Steinbrenner changed sports by taking money and reinvesting back into the team. That's a fact. Sports was longtime an era where owners were content sitting on their hands.
The earliest franchise value data we have shows the Flyers and Sixers ahead of the Bruins and Celtics (and that is a time when there were no titles between any of them), so anytime you say the latter are ahead of the former is conjecture.
Poorly run team, Bourque left, Thornton left.. Just not a lot going on.
Boston sports fans are so fickle because TD Garden took a hit then as well.
There wasn't really any sustained losing.
