I still remember walking a quarter of the way across the river (lots of people went all the way) with 7 year old son. He wanted to go all the way, I didn't know if mushy in middle so enough was enough

MrsM was yelling at me to stop. I think she almost crapped her pants she was so scared for us

My parents just let us kids go, even though we were all over the pond across the street, in the early 70s (in Virginia). I don't even think my mom or dad came outside though they knew we were on that pond. Now that I am thinking of it, I get all shivery! LOL and not from cold, though that too. I can't imagine what was going on in their minds. "Go ahead, fall in. It will all be over soon." Who knows.

Back when kids were tough and didn’t have parents that make the school bus pick them up from their home instead of the kid learning toughness and walking to a bus stop, playing football in the snow as they waited for the bus. Walking across a frozen river required toughness back then. We showed up EARLY at the bus stop to get a good football game in while the girls cheered us on. Didn’t matter how cold it was, we even wore shorts. Then we went to school, got our straight A’s and did it all over again the next day. A generation of hard hitters that left home at 9am on the weekend and played in the woods until we felt like it was too dark to see anymore.

Mrs. M is a smart woman. You are lucky to have her.
