Yeah I remember that. When I started high school, it was Capital HS's field still.
Capital still plays there. The stadium was owned by the county, but it was a smart decision selling it to UC because they updated it and gave it new life.

It became UC's field when I was either in college or the later years of HS. Either way it's great. Does UC fill the stadium or close to it?
Heck just a decade ago when I was playing at State, we used Laidley once or twice a year as our home field when we would bring in a bigger school from out of state. We also used it for the Regatta Bowl to open the season against WV Tech. UC didn't begin playing football until about 04 or 05.
No where close. The only time that stadium is ever filled or anywhere close to it is for the state HS track meet.
Wow! That is a shame! There is a lot of potential there. Both UC and WVSU should really build up there programs and take advantage of the potential market.

agree, and not only that but we really need to start building programs here in WV that can compete in D-1 FCS level football. I'd say the first to get to that level would be Fairmont, but State and UC could aim for that.

That's a big goal for any school in the state, outside of MU and WVU. Not sure who would be the best qualified, but we will have see how the teams hold up in their new conferences. I'm personally pulling hard for the schools around Charleston.
While this is an amazing gift for the university, the cost to turn this place into a competitive learning atmosphere is going to be horrendous! I think the recreational parts of the complex will be a huge benefit. What really needs to happen is some of the older rehab center structures be demolished, and salvage the newer parts for classrooms/offices.
Wow, that school is essentially broke. One wonders where the tens of millions needed for that project will come from since every school in the state had to endure a 7.5% funding reduction this year.
