Rockies somehow manage to beat the Red Sox in Boston 5-4 in 11 innings tonight despite striking out a franchise-record 24 times. Chris Sale logged 17 of those K's.

That was a hell of a pitching effort by the Red Sox staff. Just a couple timely 2-run shots that kept the Rox in it. That's why they pay the lineup they have. Team is now 17-9 since that dismal 3-12 start.

Back from vacation just in time to catch the latest in a 7 game run by the Rox. Hope they keep this up. They’re 30-27 now and that’s after that 3-12 start that had people worried in April. They’re back in the thick of things as summer arrives!

Well that last one got away from them. I last saw a score of 11-4, and when I woke up it was a 16-12 win for the Padres in 12. Bummer.

Rockies sitting at .541 and in the first of the Wild Card slots. They have scored 425 and allowed 402 runs. Those totals represent the second highest runs scored in MLB (Twins are first with 426) and third highest runs allowed. Hitting and defense has been great, but the pitching...ugh. I hope they can do something about that pitching. As good as the offense and defense is this team could be special if they had some arms that could just keep the run totals down!

Yeah, but they held the Giants to just two runs in the second game.

I think we're almost to the point where we can close the book on the 2019 season. Rockies are 2-8 over their last 10 games. They stumbled into the All-star break on a 6-game losing streak, and their pitching staff shows absolutely no sign of righting itself in the near future. None of Jeff Bridich's spendy acquisitions have lived up to their bloated contracts. The Rockies could dump Jake McGee, Mike Dunn, Bryan Shaw, Wade Davis, Ian Desmond, and Daniel Murphy and they'd be $40 million richer and not much worse than they currently are. In fact, they'd be a better team without those guys if they'd only hung onto DJ LeMahieu and Adam Ottavino.

I'm over Bridich. We've got two more years to win a championship or Arenado walks, and Bridich isn't the guy to get the Rockies there.

And scored only 1. The team has had some great runs and periods where they've looked awful this year. Hopefully they can keep it afloat because there's a steep drop from the division leaders to the Wild Card teams. But with pitching like this, the best Rox fans can hope for is another appearance in the Wild Card play-in series.

The Fat Lady's warming up her vocal cords. Rockies rallied to tie the game at 4 in the ninth, but the bullpen blew it again. Wade Davis gave up 3 unearned in a 4-run 10th and the Rox lose 8-4. They're 2-10 over their last 12 and after tomorrow's series-ender against the Giants they'll embark on a rough 13-game stretch (10 straight on the road) against the Yankees, Nats, Reds, and Dodgers. This will very likely bury them for good.

It absolutely infuriates me how overpaid and awful the bullpen is. McGee, Shaw, Dunn (who's no longer with the team), and Davis account for $42 million in salary. Add in Desmond and Daniel Murphy and the number jumps to $67 million. The Rockies have gone from penny-pinching to outright wasting money on under-productive players.

They can't afford to go out and acquire a top-shelf starter (and, honestly, if they did it'd be another waste because of the crap bullpen).

I said it last night, and I'll say it again. It's time for the Monforts to stop playing amateur hour at the GM position. Fire Jeff Bridich, bring in a proven general manager, offload about $50 million in bad contracts, and try again.
