Without a fob, I was having this happen on my Saturn at first every once in a while, and then with more frequency.
It was only one of the things that just made me hate that car with a flaming passion beyond belief. The biggest of which was the brakes went out. There was no reason for the brakes to go out. Saturn had the car for two months well they gave us a rental and could not replicate the issue. The brake pads were fine, there was just no reason for it. And all the suggestions they had of well maybe it was X or maybe it was Y had to do if it was anything other than a stick shift.
I did happen to mention while they had the car in there that the trunk was just popping open randomly for no reason that I could see. Well, somehow the latch was just a tiny bit off. Vibrations in the car would loosen it and let it go up. It was off the tiniest amount so it would latch when you put it down. But not completely.
So that they fixed. The brake thing never happened again. But that is the shortest time I have owned a car. I only owned it for five years and I just never felt safe in it. I sold it to a friend of mine for his son. He wrecked it about six months afterwards so it’s off the road now which frankly, makes me feel a lot better.
I've had my front hood open while I was driving! This was an old car tho, but still kind of annoying when all of a sudden you can't see where your going!
Do you have a HAM radio operator within 500-1000' of your location?
2-way Motorola's can open garage doors too...
Seen it.
Not that I know of. It did it again last night. Not sure what time. I just looked outside at midnight before I went to bad and saw it was open. I had an Elantra with no fob and somehow it would set the alarm by itself. I would open the door and the alarm would go off. I had to lock the door and unlock it to shut it off. So far this trunk hasn't opened when it's out of range of my fob, so it's still possibly a defective fob. I'm trying the foil wrap tonight to see if that blocks the signal.
Having your trunk pop open at random can be bad, especially if the body is still in there
I know. No more dead prostitutes in my trunk!
I tested the foil idea yesterday and it works to block the signal when I hit the button. So now I keep my fob in an aluminum can at home. If the trunk doesn't open in the next 6 months I can assume it's a fob problem. If it does open then I guess I can ask my neighbors what kind of remotes they have.
Update. It popped open while I was stopped at a stop light. That would mean it's not the fob because when I push the trunk release on the fob with the car running it doesn't open.
It did pop open in my driveway last week when I forgot to put the fob in a can.
