You don't think the $8 bucks a month is worth it? I forgot that I'd taken a picture of the sign and so here's a few more things it includes. The car does come with a warranty, but I don't quite remember what it included or for how long it was. Will have to ask tomorrow.
One of co-workers bought a used Corolla and the dealer tacked on the $2K powertrain warranty. So her car purchase price went from $8K to $10k. Her alternator died after two months and she had to pay for that out of pocket. So she canceled the warranty and her car payments dropped a lot. Much more than $8 a month.
It's a Toyota (I'd say the same about a Honda). You don't need a limited powertrain warranty on it. The dealership is just padding the selling price. As long as the first owner had all the oil changed done, didn't let the oil level go low, and didn't beat on it... then you are fine not buying that warranty. Just take care of the car properly.
And most cars these days have no problems making it to 7 years/100K miles.
Plus that car is already checked out and "certified" by a Toyota dealership. You really don't need that $2K warranty. And you'd be surprised by how much isn't covered by it. And most likely, if you should need it, they'll look for any reason not to honour the warranty, like you missing doing expensive and non-essential dealership service maintenances.
Just take good care of the car, don't beat on it and do your oil changes. BTW if you are a low mileage driver, then change your oil every 3 months, even if you haven't driven the car 3K miles. Oil degrades over time. BTW where do you live?
Having just checked with Toyota, the car comes with a 3-Year/36,000 Mile Comprehensive Warranty and a 5-Year/60,000 Powertrain Warranty, so I guess I might just pass on that extended warranty since the one it comes with still has much time left on it. I'll have to weigh out my options, though, and really think about this one.
