When I went to UT (1977-81) there were vendors on the drag that sold delicious egg rolls. Are they still sold there? If so I will have to make the trip.

The egg rolls I've gotten since at local oriental food restaurants just don't measure up.

Recommendations for other great egg roll sources would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know what kind of brown sauce they provided with the egg rolls. I don't think it was just soy sauce, it seemed different, tastier.

I remember those too. They were the best! I used to get them when I would visit my friends who went to UT. I would also love to know if they were still sold down there.

Some years back, a bunch were chased off/arrested for fencing stolen goods. ..

I do remember that, now that you mention it.

Were those egg rolls really as good as I remember them? Thanks for the blast from the past.

I swear there was a thread on the bowls of fried rice not that far back ...

Sadly, CaptRn, that place is long gone. Likely a victim of shallow margins on that type of restaurant and/or next generations no longer interested in running a restaurant. Or a health code violation.

The sauce you’re referring to is a Szechuan sauce.

Man. At UT, we could live on that place for a week on $10. WHAT WAS THE NAME!!

Ugh. Too many tailgates. Too many parties.

I was not referring to a restaurant. The egg rolls I remember were sold out of carts on the sidewalk. Very low overhead.

Unfortunately, probably a lot of MSG as well!

I DO enjoy egg rolls and spring rolls! I make a killer fried rice that we load with 2-3x the normal amount of veggies...yum! I like an orange or duck sauce for dipping...I use soy for seasoning while cooking!

Dang, having fried chicken and veggies tonight...maybe fried rice for Sunday!

The carts were owned and run by the same restaurant. One of which would be staffed by their daughter from time to time... yeah. Memories.
