When I first moved to a new home in Ahwatukee my cats loved to bring in scorpions to show me their captures...unfortunately most of the time they would play with the scorpions, the scorpions would run out of steam, and then my cats would get bored and go back outside to find more without actually killing the scorpions they had just brought it. The brought in scorpions would reanimate later if I didn't squash 'em when the cats first brought them in. The first year they must have brought in over 40 scorpions...no joke. I had to be careful downstairs.

Very good advice to keep your cats in. Some cats you can't keep in though if they were outdoor cats when they grew up before you got them. They will turn into depressed balls of fat fur if you keep them inside. It is almost better for those type of cats to let them outside for a bit each day even though there is a risk. If you have those type of cats you are better off picking a neighborhood that isn't bordering on undeveloped areas else your cat will get eaten.
