Recently reopened following a $16 million renovation, the Hotel Oceana Santa Monica is a haven for business and leisure travelers alike. Its 70 loft-style rooms with blackout curtains are like intimate hideaways, offering excellent seaside panoramas while secluded from the bustle of traffic and masses of people in an unhurried, upscale section of town.

Both one-bedroom suites and deluxe ocean view rooms are available with their own private lanais. No two rooms are exactly the same. The smallest units measure 500~550 square feet, while the largest cover up to 850 square feet. They all feature executive work desks, iPod docking stations, Egyptian cotton linens, Aveda personal care amenities, plush Frette bath sheets, and terry robes.

The Lanai Suites, with their 50'' HDTVs and independent kitchenettes, have courtyard and pool views. The Ocean View Suites facing the beach have their own backgammon, chess and checkers game tables. Spacious living rooms with sofa beds and Waterworks bath fixtures and tiles come standard in the signature suites.

At the heart of the Hotel Oceana Santa Monica is The Courtyard, with its lush California landscaping surrounding a heated heart-shaped pool and deck with custom designed loungers. Sunning and swimming are the primary daytime activities, with dedicated staff members on hand to provide misters and beverage service. When the sun goes down, candles are lit along with the outdoor fireplace, and music fills the air for a magically romantic atmosphere.

The Oceana's Fitness Center features state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training equipment. There are Pilates, yoga and meditation classes offered, along with exercise programs set by a personal trainer, using recumbent bikes, elliptical machines, and treadmills accompanied by flat screen televisions.

The Ocean Lounge offers California Coastal Cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner poolside as well as at its own tables. Only the freshest ingredients from Santa Monica's Farmer's Market are used to prepare its dishes, from veal, chicken, rib-eye steaks and sea bass to pizzas. The Ocean Lounge is also noted for its signature cocktails, including the Toasted Marshmallow and the Poolside Lemonade.

For meetings and events, the 1,000-square-foot Ocean View Boardroom can handle groups of up to 40 persons and the 5,000-square-foot Oceana Courtyard can accommodate as many as 60 around the pool and fireplace. The Ocean Lounge can also be made available for banquets, receptions and dinners with 2,000 square feet of space seating a maximum of 50 guests.

To get there from Los Angeles International Airport, take the I-405 Freeway North to the I-10 Freeway West. After exiting at Fourth Street, turn right (north) on Fourth and then make a left (west) onto Colorado Boulevard. When you reach Ocean Avenue, turn right and continue for one mile.
