After more than a year of anticipation, the General Services Administration on Tuesday named three sites — one in Springfield and two in Prince George's County — on its short list of potential locations for a new FBI headquarters.
Greenbelt and the Landover Mall in Prince George's and the GSA warehouse in Springfield in Fairfax County made the list, ruling out a range of wildcards such as the Westphalia Town Center and Exxon Mobil's Merrifield campus. The short list excludes D.C. from the running, but many real estate experts regarded Mayor Vincent Gray's proposal, Poplar Point, as a long shot at best.
Proximity to CIA, DOD, IAD and DCA means NoVa wins.
PG County. Greenbelt should meet both the GSA and FBI the most lucrative requirements for a potential relocation site, plus they've had the most compelling argument over the last several months. I don't know about the former Landover Mall site...It would be nice to revitalize the former mall's grounds with a different mixed-use project with a more competent developer unlike the current developer that owns the former's mall's property.

Greenbelt is only 12 or so miles from the FBI's current location. Proximity to those other agencies really isn't an issue from locations within or near the Beltway, which was why being near the Beltway was a requirement. There are more compelling arguments other than proximity to defense agencies.
The same goes for airports. Drop a flag anywhere within the Beltway and the relative distance is negligible. Especially near mass transit options.
Inside the Beltway, within 5 minute walk to the Metro, shovel ready, proximity to NSA, BWI, and DC. Greenbelt wins.

I read that the recommended security buffer zone might preclude Springfield from winning. I have a gut feeling Greenbelt is going to win.
I don't want the additional traffic in my backyard anyway.
This Friday, my wife and I left the Duke St. exit on 395 south for NC at no later than 11am. It took us 3 hours to get to Fredericksburg, VA. And VA wants to add 11,000 employees and ancillary offices at the I-95/495 interchange? Good luck with that.
About three years ago our trip to NC used to take 4.5 hours on weekends. Now, because of I-95 congestion it takes anywhere from 5.5 to 6.5 hours on the weekend unless we leave after 9pm and get there after midnight.
I-95 is the ONLY major east coast artery from NY to Richmond. And VA has built so much along that route that the mixing bowl down past Dumfries has now become one of the major choke points.

You should try 301 then. It's pretty convenient for you since youre in MD.
as a nova resident I say let pg county get the deal. traffics bad enough this side of the river. Although I find PG counties stance/argument funny. its almost a "come on ppl! we are good! I swear we be good! and like, our house doesn't suck! we got new granite counters and new cabinets!"

What made you come to that assumption regarding our stance/argument? This is a regional economic competition after all, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that both sides are shouting up and down with the perceived advantages of their touted sites for the FBI relocation.

Perceived advantage of PG? Less of a drive to go arrest the corrupt county "leaders" and about 15 times as many murders to assist in investigating.
