It’s not easy. Local TV news stations have news online sites. Axios just started a local news site for the area but it’s pretty thin so far.

I still have a stack of old N&O newspapers that I use for oil changes and painting. Not sure what I'll do when they're all gone, but it's still fun to grab a few from the stack and see what stories and events were covered way back when.

I check several Charlotte local news sources online daily - WFAE, WBTV, WSOC, WCCB. (Not sure what your local channels are in Raleigh)

If anything is happening they will have the story before the N&O or CO.

I do occasionally check out the CO online. If there is a story I want to read I can either find it by searching the headline on Google or going to the library website and looking at the CO online - all FREE!

I read the daily N&O electronic edition, but I find the wral.com website to be more useful than newsobserver.com. I subscribe to ~20 feeds on X (f/k/a Twitter) for local news.

I don't care much for WRAL's website. It's usually not up to date or has minimal detailed information, plus it has too much blank white space to scroll though. I've found the CBS17 website to be a more simplified design and the most up to date.

I did like the CBS17 web site until recently. Now, I get a pop-up that keeps popping up. You can close it, but as soon as you start scrolling, it pops back up.

I think WRAL has the best radar site for weather.

I don't get any pop-up on the CBS17 website, but I also use an AD blocker, which the WRAL website doesn't like. I can get around it but it's very annoying. I agree that WRAL does have the best live radar when needed, but I also have a weather radio along with our cell phones that go berserk when severe weather alerts are issued for our area, so it's hard to not know about them.

I’m currently paying 16.07 a month for 7-days of the e-edition.
Just got an email today that it’s going up to 4.84 + tax per WEEK!
That comes out to about 22.50 a month or a 40% increase.
I’m calling in a few days and if I can’t get them to hold my current price I will be canceling.

It’s a liberal rag with 2-3 day old news .... it won’t be missed by me.

Honestly local forums such as this one, local groups on Facebook, or Reddit keep me informed on local doings. It's no more biased than what the papers or TV stations put out. But at least the news is more boots on the ground and instantaneous. Don't need the legacy news.

The N&O or parent McClatchy regularly fund deep dives into investigative stories, the sort of journalism that doesn't happen in broadcast media as much as it should.

We just dropped the Sunday driveway delivery. Our annual is now $125 for full eEdition access.
