Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says

A January poll by consulting firm Revenue Management Solutions found that about 25% of people who make under $50,000 were cutting back on fast food, pointing to cost as a concern.

...
Fast-food prices have shot up over the last decade, according to FinanceBuzz. The personal finance site found that the price of a McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese meal from McDonald's more than doubled in price from $5.39 in 2014 to $11.99 this year.

Other restaurant chains also have jacked up their prices, FinanceBuzz said. Between 2014 and 2024, Popeye's, Jimmy John's and Subway hiked their food prices 86%, 62% and 39%, respectively. The price of a two-piece chicken combo at Popeyes jumped from $6.49 to $11.39 over that period, while an eight-inch club tuna from Jimmy Johns rose from $5.75 to $9.10, according to FinanceBuzz.

...
Restaurant chains point to rising labor costs as a key factor driving up prices. Across the U.S., 22 states raised their minimum wages in January, although the federal baseline pay remains stuck at $7.25 an hour.

Labor advocates say companies should be able to absorb to costs. Nothing new there.

Maybe they should fire all of the Americans and hire the illegals.

How about not going to fast food restaurants. The food isn't that great anyway.

Fast food will soon be run by Ai/Robots. No minimum wage needed.

You can buy a grill for $199 and make your own"hamberders" in the comfort of your backyard. The $20 you would part ways with at the golden arches would buy a lot of ground beef at the grocery store.

The federal minimum wage in the United States was set at $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009, and has not changed since.

Why people still expect OTHERS to work for $7.25, so they can buy a cheap burger??

There's options to not raising the minimum wage: Public housing, food stamps, free mass transit.

Here, in Tucson, all public mass transit is free to ride. Other cities should do the same.

^^^^^^This. It's terrible, bad for you and often prepared by those that don't care about hygiene. I haven't eaten fast food in over six years. Now, I can't even stand the thought of it.

As usual, the CEO's of these huge corporations blame the workers behind the counter.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/mcdon...123138941.html

For instance, McDonald's NET income was just shy of 2 billion dollars for the last year, up 7 percent from the year before. The CEO of McDonald's makes around 20 million per year.

If you look at the other chains, you will find much the same type of numbers. Net profits and salaries for executives keep rising, while the executives point to the workers as the problem.
