There are no bears being kept as pets. They are kept as captives.

Bears are some of the most gentle animals on this planet. They are not even as dangerous as some breeds of dogs. Just enjoy watching them and stay out of their personal space and everything will be fine. Please stop calling Fish and Wildlife to come and destroy them. There is no reason for that.
Not only are they gentle, they are cute, too!

And I don't care what people say about not feeding them. I will continue to invite bears to my backyard barbecue parties.

Oh look, this woman has a grizzly as a pet. Cutest things ever; you should get one, Cloudy:

There's often a grain of truth in even the most misguided noise, and I agree with this. One of the most often-asked questions on local social media from incoming retirees when I lived in Florence was "who do I call about the bear I saw near my house?" as if it were simply a given that one would "call someone" just because they saw wildlife. Enough calls, and Fish and Wildlife may euthanize the animal because they figure it's become a nuisance.

I am not talking about laws. I am talking about what human-animal relationships work and which do not.

It's not a safe or compassionate practice.

Reminds me of a story about a large, professional football lineman many years ago who had a pet lion cub.

After X number of months he eventually had to get rid of it after coming home to find out he "wasn't the boss" anymore.

Same as dogs and cats.

I saw that one, but she is running more of a zoo. In the other videos the people are keeping them in/at their homes as pets. As I have already said, this is not something I would do or I would recommend anyone do.

I have a problem with the entire concept of people keeping any animal as a pet. But i will say one thing. If I had to choose between having a black bear as a pet, or having a pit bull as a pet, I would choose the bear. Pit bulls are about 600 times more dangerous than a bear.

Which is why I provided the videos as evidence that it can be done, and it does work. Again not something I would do, or I would recommend others do, but people do it anyway.

I watched a horrifying video of a person "dancing" with his "pet" bear. One swipe of the paw later the "owner" was dead.
