I think they had talks about gutting the tower and demolishing the wings for a small traditional city hall building. The Mayor mention this plan in the last city council meeting.

So option 2 probably become a reality after all.

Best option IMO, Hopefully they move in this direction.

https://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news...218773025.html

The article addresses the mayor's final Let's Talk forum, but the video recaps the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year the GC has had and shows the three options the Council was presented with last winter, they are;

1. Renovate all for $110 mil
2. Demolish wings, build new support building, renovate tower for $114 mil
3. Demolish and replace whole structure for $125 mil

What's interesting is that the millions of dollars of flood damage, which has most of the top half floors closed, is covered by insurance. The city could have a significant chunk of the renovation budget covered by insurance. If demolish and replace goes through, the city is basically leaving the insurance money on the table.

Perhaps that makes Option 2 more attractive.

Option 2 is by far the best one in my opinion.

Columbus is one of the few cities in America where the skyline DECREASES! The old Blue Cross-Blue Shield building will be taken out for the shorter new VA Clinic----which is actually a good thing! Proposed new hotels will be about the same height as buildings being taken down. Someone once commented here that Charleston, SC has a low skyline and is charming. So, if that is our goal, I'm fine with it!

I’m in favor of option 2 hands down.
