Thank you for your response. Our realtor recommended the Sedgwick Farm neighborhood, as a highly reputable community. I will definitely look into the neighborhoods you mentioned.
It is and it is arguably the most affluent in the city.
I will say that the 13224 zip code on the East Side is a solidly middle class, above average educational attainment zip code that is about 36% Black, with the northern portion being predominantly black(Salt Springs). A you can find black judges, dentists, other professionals and it spills over into DeWitt, with some going with the charter/private options I mentioned above. For instance, here is a picture of the state championship Football team at Christian Brothers Academy, which is in that general area: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php/ (it is coed)
I dare say that 13224 is one of the best options in Upstate NY for a middle class black family looking for an area with a substantial black population that is generally middle class.
What do you mean about people looking for trouble? Will my family be in danger? In the previous thread, there was theft. We're from NYC, so we're used to pockets of crime. But we're moving to Syracuse for a better quality of life, and access to shops/culture/museums.
Syracuse is very much a “don’t start anything, there will be none” type of city. Things happen like most decent sized cities, but the vast majority is lifestyle, people know each other type of serious crime.
Also, Liverpool ironically has more black students than any suburban high school in the area. So, compared to other suburban districts, it has more than any other suburban school district. So, I don’t know where that even came from. North Syracuse is next in that regard(has a black school superintendent), while Onondaga Central has the highest percentage(has a couple of school board reps that are black(know both of them)), with J-D and Liverpool next, give or take.

There is just a lot of crime near Downtown, and Sedgwick is near Downtown.
Not trying to scare you, but elderly people have been murdered near that area, in the last few years, on James St. and in Eastwood, so I highly don't recommend it.
I would really say these are the best areas, in ranking:
1. FM
2. JD
3. East Syracuse/Minoa
4. Liverpool
5. Baldwinsville (a bit far out, but very nice)
6. Camillus
7. Lafayette (country, but not too far from the city).
Best to you.
Syracuse is about 1000X better than NYC. Good move. You are going to love it here. Its peaceful and people are very friendly.

That's not true. Sedgwick is a North Side neighborhood over a slight hill to the NE of Downtown a good ways away.
What elderly people are you referring to in terms of Sedgwick? That was in an apartment building ran by a slumlord closer to Downtown and not in Sedgwick.
Also, given what the OP wants, I would not rank things in that order. They aren't bad, but this is not considering what the OP is looking for.
Even if they are looking into the suburbs and considering what they are looking for, I'd say J-D, Onondaga Central, Liverpool, North Syracuse; with a give or take for the last three. I'd also say that even Westhill and West Genesee in the western suburbs at least can put you near the community due to parts touching the city, but also offering very good schools and a visible black student population.
Sedgwick isn't that close to downtown?
Are you serious?
LOL.
As for the murders, they were both about 2 miles from Sedgwick, same thing.
It doesn't matter if a slumlord ran those apartments, its still a bad area. Living in bad areas, when you have, money...to be blunt...is extremely stupid.

That's still not Sedgwick and 2 miles makes a difference in Syracuse. People need the truth and that incident which involved residents of the apartment building, was not in Sedgwick. There is only like one apartment building in the Sedgwick neighborhood and that is pretty much hidden, if you don't know where to look.
Again, Syracuse is only 25 square miles. So, even first ring suburbs aren't far from downtown, but that doesn't mean that there aren't solid to very nice neighborhoods within the city.
Regardless, the first and most important aspect of living in any neighborhood is a low crime rate. It is not jobs. It is not restaurants. It is not educational opportunities. It definitely is not diversity.

This is about the OP though, not what you or I think is more important. Those other things are also very important to many people and you have to consider that people may have a different experience/comfort level with or preference for different environments.

Live in 13066, the best zip code in the area. And if you don't mind the commute, then Cazenovia or Skaneateles are the places that are even better.
