Looking at an older source that has 2010 Census information, I was looking at census tract such as these in Prospect Heights: Census Tract 020500 in Kings County, New York
Census Tract 020700 in Kings County, New York
Census Tract 016100 in Kings County, New York
Census Tract 020300 in Kings County, New York
Census Tract 016300 in Kings County, New York

Here are some relatively similar areas in Syracuse according to the source at least at the census block group level: Census Block Group 004600-4 in Onondaga County, New York (includes Scottholm on the East Side)
a few blocks in the western part of that area at the time: Census Block 004600-4-005 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 004600-4-006 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 004600-4-008 in Onondaga County, New York
Homes to the right in the street view are in one of those blocks: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0430...8192?entry=ttu

Census Block Group 006103-2 in Onondaga County, New York (in the (South) Valley)
A street view in that block group: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9951...8192?entry=ttu
block to the left: Census Block 006103-2-004 in Onondaga County, New York
to the right: Census Block 006103-2-003 in Onondaga County, New York
Another street view in that block group: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9904...8192?entry=ttu
the 3 blocks that meet at that intersection: Census Block 006103-2-008 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 006103-2-009 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 006103-2-007 in Onondaga County, New York
One more street view of newer homes in that block group: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9861...8192?entry=ttu
block it is in: Census Block 006103-2-010 in Onondaga County, New York
A streetview of the street to the south: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9853...8192?entry=ttu
to the north of that block: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9870...8192?entry=ttu
(can walk to a grocery store, a couple of elementary schools, a middle school, a library, a church, on a pretty regular bus line to Downtown, etc.)

Another block group that covers the NE half of Strathmore: Census Block Group 005000-1 in Onondaga County, New York
A streetview: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0294...8192?entry=ttu
to the right: Census Block 005000-1-019 in Onondaga County, New York
to the left: Census Block 005000-1-018 in Onondaga County, New York
An intersection: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0290...8192?entry=ttu
blocks that meet there: Census Block 005000-1-013 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 005000-1-022 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 005000-1-021 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 005000-1-012 in Onondaga County, New York
(there are a few elementary schools in walking distance(2 public(Roberts and Bellevue), 1 Catholic(Most Holy Rosary), Corcoran HS is nearby, while Bishop Ludden and Syracuse Academy of Science are a short drive away)

This block groups in in between Salt Springs and East Genesee Street(a portion of LeMoyne College is nearby and has a children's residential center): Census Block Group 004600-5 in Onondaga County, New York
A street view: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0443...8192?entry=ttu
blocks that are around that area: Census Block 004600-5-004 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 004600-5-007 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block 004600-5-005 in Onondaga County, New York
A couple of nearby street views: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0434...8192?entry=ttu
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0449...8192?entry=ttu
block they are in(inc. the children's center): Census Block 004600-5-001 in Onondaga County, New York

I may add more, but this can give an example of areas with similar types of homes you are looking for, with some walkability or walking distance to some things and with demographics that you are used to/looking for.

I will say that the 13224 zip code on the East Side is a solidly middle class, above average educational attainment zip code that is about 36% Black, with the northern portion being predominantly black(Salt Springs). A you can find black judges, dentists, other professionals and it spills over into DeWitt, with some going with the charter/private options I mentioned above. For instance, here is a picture of the state championship Football team at Christian Brothers Academy, which is in that general area: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php/ (it is coed)

I dare say that 13224 is one of the best options in Upstate NY for a middle class black family looking for an area with a substantial black population that is generally middle class.
Just to add to this, much of this census tract, which covers the Meadowbrook/Scottholm/Bradford Hills neighborhoods and up to Salt Springs Road, is in that zip code, 2020 info: https://data.census.gov/table?g=1400000US36067004600 (as mentioned, 17.5% alone/20.3% inc. in combo)
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067004600
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067004600
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067004600
https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5...0US36067004600
(Keep in mind that those income numbers are for black households and families in that census tract)
Educational attainment info: https://data.census.gov/table/ACSST5...0US36067004600

2010 info: Census Tract 004600 in Onondaga County, New York
2022 5 year info: https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...6-onondaga-ny/

So, this is why I say that this area of the city is a good option for those looking for a middle class area with a substantial to quite high black population with a high educational attainment. This is also the case for the eastern half of the Salt Springs neighborhood to north of Salt Springs Road.

Keep in mind that it has been like this for decades and isn’t a new occurrence.

OP, 13066 is the best zip code. Then, I would pick 13078 or 13104. If you must have diversity, then 13224 or 13210 or 13057 are very good choices. Liverpool is decent as well.

This is very subjective. Some may say 13104(Manlius) is the better zip code in the Fayetteville-Manlius SD. 13066 is Fayetteville, btw. 13078 is Jamesville and is a more diverse zip code in relation to the OP.

13057 is East Syracuse and while there is some diversity(and increasing), it isn't even one of the more diverse suburban zip codes. If we are talking strictly suburban zip codes, 13090, 13041, 13215 and 13088 would be up there is terms of having more diversity. 13211(Mattydale) and 13120(Nedrow) are also up there, but are more working/middle class.

13210 is a mixed bag due to having its share of off campus college students and it has some public housing in its northern portion. It's southern half or so is generally nice though(inc. Berkeley Park, Outer Comstock, etc.).

I'd say behind 13224, 13214 is next in terms of having a decent black percentage and is generally middle class. It is adjacent to 13224 to the east and is more into the town of DeWitt, but also covers parts of the outer East Side of the city.

Sedgwick is in 13203, which is also a mixed bag. Strathmore and Winkworth are in 13207, which again is a mixed bag, but does have a high black percentage(about 38%) and there is a black middle class presence in parts of the zip code. 13206 is Eastwood and small portions of DeWitt. The South Valley is covered by 13207 in its west third/half and 13205 in its eastern half/two-thirds(13205 extends into the northern half or so of Nedrow(cdp)).

I'm also curious if this is a matter of Syracuse being the the only option the OP is looking into.
